In The Dark

As Fox leant slightly on the smaller girl she couldn't help but think of what had happened before they were released.

After they had spoken to one another a bang could be heard from the front of the room. Screams echoed throughout the group, fear of what may come next.

Alec directed her to stay as he moved forward to try and see the commotion. He managed to find a spot that gave him clear sight of the front.

Guards had flooded into the chamber and had rounded up the kids. No Grounder made a move as the thought of death lingered around them.

Needing to move quickly, he made his way back over to Fox. She had tried to go after Alec but being a smaller body, she wasn't able to push past many people.

"The guards are here." He explained thinking she might know something he didn't. "They rounded up your people but haven't touched us."

Fox sucked in a breath as she thought of her friends. She wanted to help them but what could she do by her lonesome. Not many of the Grounders would be willing to fight alongside them.

She told Alec about the bone marrow extractions they had been doing and that was enough for him to think of a way to keep her safe.

He glanced around and noticed how she stuck out among them. They were all half naked whereas she was dressed in pastel colors. If they began to made their way back there then they would take her.

A voice brought their attention back to the front of the crowd. When they looked they could see the shuffling of people moving.

To keep her safe they needed to think of something fast.

"Take off your clothes." Alec told her, an idea popping into his head.

His request bewildered Fox but made no move to comply. What was he thinking?

Seeing her confused look he went to quickly explain his plan. "If you look like us they won't keep you here. They are leading us out, it's best to be among warriors rather than to be restrained."

It made sense that there is strength in numbers but could she leave her friends? Something had changed in the plan and she was at a crossroads on her next action. If she stayed then she would be taken hostage once again. But if she went she had a better chance at fighting among the others.

Quickly she pulled her shirt over head before working on her pants. She needed to get out with the Grounders so that she would be able to save her friends.

When she grabbed the hem of her shirt, Alex turned to keep a lookout for them. He could only hope that this would be able to fool the guards into thinking she was with them.

Once she was done she crossed her arms hoping to cover up as much as she could. She hadn't been this exposed to anyone and she wanted nothing more than to cover back up.
