MARCO
Confusion is clear on Eline's face. Her eyebrows are knitted together and her cheeks turn into a cute shade of pink. Gosh this is embarrassing.
"Um, hi Marco. I just wanted to come and talk with you for a moment but you - you seem a bit busy." Her eyes move from me to Lena and then back to me.
And just when I thought it couldn't get any worse Lena opens her mouth. "Why would you want to talk to him?"
Elena's brown eyes widen and she looks so lost so I just have to stand up for her. "Lena, you seriously should go." I make my statement clearer by pushing her a bit forward by the shoulders, toward the door.
She turns to look at me pouting her red lips. "When do you have time to meet? I really need to talk to you."
I roll my eyes and point at the door. "Bye Lena."
She looks at Elena once more before walking out the door. Finally. And then it's just us two.
"Do you want to come in to talk or?"
She shakes her head no and takes a step back. "No never mind. It's nothing important."
What?
"Eline what did you want to talk about? It has to be important if you came all the way to my house."
She looks uncomfortable and I don't blame her but I can see that she wants to tell me something. And I want to know what it is.
"It's nothing new. I just wanted to let you know that whatever you're struggling with, you should go get help." Her eyes search my face and she looks so sincere. Almost worried.
"I'm fine, I needed motivation to get myself to clean the house but don't worry about it anymore." What the hell Marco, seriously?
She studies psychology, of course she doesn't believe my lie. But surprisingly she lets it go. Usually she's very persistent but not today.
"Oh okay, well good to hear that. But I need to go, you should go and see your teammates if you aren't too busy with your girlfriend." She turns her back to me with a final small smile and makes her way to her car.
She was acting strange and her smile wasn't obviously real. I really want to know what's wrong with her even though I know I usually don't care but somehow, now I do. I don't want her to lose the lively laugh she has.
So before I can even realize what I'm doing I take my phone and dial Mario's number.
"Marco man, what's up?"
I didn't even realize how much I missed him until I hear his familiar voice. Why am I feeling so sappy today?
"Hi, are you at practice?" It's currently 2.30pm so I think he should be there.
"Yea, why? Do you plan on coming too?"
"I'll meet you there, I need to talk to you." I can't believe I said that.
"Really okay! I'll meet you soon." His voice got more excited than normal and he sounded so happy. Do they want me so badly back to the field?
But now I need my best mate's advice. It's about time that I ask for an advise. I need one desperately.
----
Everything's the same. So familiar that I almost want to return back to who I was before all of this. But I still don't. The spark isn't there and I have no idea how to get it back, or do I even want it back.
I take a breath and open the changing room's door. Every eye pair turn to me and soon I'm surrounded by my teammates. I'm not lying when I say that I kind of missed this.
After the exchanges and me confirming way too many times that I'm not recovered yet and that I'm not coming back just yet, I make my way to Mario. We quietly do the bro hug and I ask him where we could talk.
"Let's go to the field, you haven't stepped there for so long."
I can't stop the sigh leaving my mouth but I don't want him to get suspicious so I choose to follow him. I can't stay away from it for the rest of my life.
We sit on the bench by the field and I stare at the big green field in front of me. It has really been a while since I've been here, back then I was with Lena and I was happy.
"So what did you want to talk about?"
I look at Mario who looks serious and curious. How do I tell him everything I want to?
"You know I kind of am in a need of an advice. You remember that me and Lena broke up right?" I pause and see him going through his memory and then he finally nods.
"I wa- am sad about it. I still can't wrap my mind over the fact that it happened. But at Erik's party I met this one Brittish girl who doesn't leave me alone. She keeps pushing her way into my life and I don't want her to. She's so stubborn and she seems to read me way too well." I pause again to make sure he is still with me.
A nod and then I continue, "But today Lena came to see me and we sort of fought and then she kissed me. But then Eline popped up at my house at the same time! She looked so confused when she saw Lena and her smile was somehow odd, not the same kind of that I'm used to. And I feel somehow confused." I take a breath and try to collect my mind.
"I wanted to take her inside and give her something to drink and let her spill everything what's bothering her. I don't know why, because she makes me feel annoyed, constantly asking me questions and bothering me but now... I want to take care of her. I felt the sudden urge to make her smile."
I look at Mario to see him smiling at my rant. "What?" I'm pissed at he doesn't take me seriously, he's my best mate.
He raises his eyebrows and shakes his head. "Think about it bro. I think somewhere inside you, you do know why you feel that way. You almost said it yourself."
With those words he stands up and pats me on my shoulder. "Now c'mon let's go to my place and watch how Bayern plays today."
