"Father, I want to become a Soldier like you!" I beamed. Father then pats me on my head and smiled, "In order to become a Soldier, you have to be strong both physically and mentally." He said and I quickly nod.
"Yes, I will Father."
"Good. But for now, be a good girl and listen to your Mother. Help her with her works while I'm gone okay?" He said as he kneels down, leveling himself to me. I smiled, "Yes, take care Father." I said and hugs him. He hugged me back and carried me, as he slowly stood up and walked towards Mother that was a few steps away from us, watching us with a smile.
"I'll be going now dear." He said as he placed a kiss on my Mother's forehead.
"Take care dear." Mom said with teary eyes.
"No! Don't go!!"
Father then puts me down and pats me once more at the head before finally walks to his comrades and rides on a horse.
"No! Father!"
He looked back at us through his shoulder for the last time before he together with his comrades went out of the walls.
"Don't go! Don't go outside the walls, Father!!"
~~~
"Father!" I shouted as I quickly raise my body from my bed. Breathing heavily, and seeing the same old tidy small room of mine, I've realized that it was all a dream. I face-palmed as I continued to breathe heavily.
I looked at the door of my room when I heard someone knocking. "Yes?" I said. And the door slowly opened revealing my step sister that was standing on the other side of the door, with a smile on her face. "Laila, breakfast is ready." She informed.
I slowly nod my head, "Okay, I'll head down after I take a shower." I said as I went out of my bed and stood up scratching the back of my head and yawns. "Okay." She said and was about to close the door, "Thanks, Petra." I said making her stop for a few seconds and smiled once again, "Your welcome." She said and finally closed the door.
My Father is a good friend of Mr.Ral and that is why Petra and I became friends. When my parents died, Mr.Ral took me in and adopted me. I am very grateful to the two of them. If it wasn't for them, I guess, I've already lost hope and would be nowhere near to where I am now.
After taking a quick shower, I dry off my maroon red bob hair with a towel. Wearing my Garrison uniform, with a dark gray collared button up shirt underneath with a white ribbon, I walked downstairs and saw Petra and Mr.Ral on the dining room eating breakfast.
Petra seemed to noticed me as she looks at me, "Laila, don't you think you're being too slow?" She said. I just rolled my eyes and sits down on a vacant seat and hanged the towel that I used on the chair beside me and starts to eat.
Petra sighed, "Seriously, aren't you tired of hearing Rico-san's sermons?" she said while looking at me with a raised eyebrow. I shrugged and puts a spoonful of food inside my mouth completely ignoring her. A took a sip of water after swallowing the food inside my mouth.
"You're leaving today, right?" I asked.
"Yes, we're going on an expedition today."
I pushed my chair backwards and stood up as I glared at Petra, "You better come back here alive or else, I'm going to kill you again when we meet at hell." I ordered it made Petra chuckled, I raised an eyebrow. "What's funny?"
"Nothing. It's just, why can't you just say a normal 'Take care' or 'be careful out there'. You're such a shy girl Laila," She teased. I clicked my tongue in annoyance as I walk towards the door, "I have a trauma to those kind of words. Don't you know?" I said as I turned back at her.
"I'll be going now, Mr.Ral." I said to Mr.Ral with a smile, he smiled back "Take ca—"
"Father, no! She has a trauma on those words, right Laila?" Petra stopped her Father and looked at me with a smirk. Seriously, this girl loves teasing me.
"Whatever, Petra Ral." I said as I rolled my eyes and walked out of the house.
As I was walking I heard a familiar voice calling my name, "Laila!" I quickly turned to its source and frowned, "What is it this time, Petra?" she walked closer to me, "Is there anything you wanted to say to Captain Levi?" She asked.
I raise an eyebrow, "Huh? And what am I going to say to that guy?"
"I don't know, that's why I'm asking."
"I have nothing to say to that guy." I said as I looked away crossing my arms. I heard her hummed in amusement, "Oh come on, there must be something." She said with a smirk.
I snorted, "What is wrong with you? For what I know, you are the one that has something to tell that guy. Something very important." I said emphasizing the last two words that made brunette haired girl in front of me blush.
"Stop changing the subject! I know what you're always doing! Every time we comeback from an expedition, you would always look for Captain Levi and check if he's alright! I know you Laila, though you may act like you don't care about him, the truth is you do. You care about him a lot!" She retorted with a shaky voice. Was she that affected on what I said?
I sighed, "Okay fine. I care about him..." I trailed off.
"See? I knew it—"
"But, not only him. I care about everyone... I hate how people would walk outside those walls with a smile on their face, full of confidence but, never made it back... alive..." I said, my voice almost cracked as an image of my Father pop up on my mind.
She smiled at me weakly, "I'm sorry..."
I shook my head. "You better comeback alive, got me?" I said with a smile. She nods and salute, "Yes ma'am!"
"Childish..." I mumbled. "I'm off then!" I said before turning around and continued to walk towards the walls.
As I reached and climb up the wall, an angry Rico welcomed me and started her daily sermons to me. I looked up at the sky and smiled, ignoring her sermons.
"Father, can you see me? Are you watching me now? Your daughter is now a Soldier."
"Hey! Laila Marseille! Are you listening?" Rico shouted making me snap out of my thoughts.
"Yeah..." I answered lazily.
"The newly graduated soldiers will be here later. I'm assigning them to you." She said making me frown, "Why me?" I asked.
"Because you're the only one who's not doing anything! Watch over them, got it?"
"Yeah, yeah."
"Got it?!"
"Yes!" I said as I straighten my back and salutes to her. She glared at me before leaving. I sighed as she was out of my sight.
"New graduates, huh? I got to check them out." I smiled at that thought.
to be continued.
