Started With a Tube - Chapter 12
Christmas break comes around quicker than I'd previously anticipated. People come to know of mine and Alec's relationship and they come to accept it, too. Something which Alec reminds me somewhat regularly is that people can be nice, and I begin to see this.
Although, I don't agree. I think that some people are just less awful. And you have to find the people who are the least awful and when you do, you have to keep them around. For as long as possible.
Our holidays begin on a Friday, with Christmas falling the following Thursday. We don't normally get this much time off, but I'm in no rush to argue. They can give us as much time as they want. I celebrate this first day off with Jamie. We go into town and get dinner and a movie. Neither of which spark up any sort of argument. We've been getting on a lot better recently, in fact. I think something changed with her. I'm not sure what though, but I'm sure she'll tell me soon enough. When the movie ends, I get the tube home and Jamie's mum picks her up, because they have to go shopping.
I'm just sitting down on the train when an out of breath boy flops down next to me.
"I literally ran after you the whole way down the escalator but you didn't see me."
"Alec Jameson, I fear I might have to buy you a treadmill as your Christmas present," I smirk.
"No, let's not do that," he says, trying to catch his breath. "Besides, I'm totally in shape."
"And your failure of being able to breathe right now is a shining example of this," I grin and he just sends me an unimpressed look.
"I'm not good with stairs, okay?"
"You were going down them and they were moving-"
"Okay, I'm out of shape," he caves.
                              "Told you," I laugh.
"Anyway, how was your night with Jamie?" he asks.
"Good, actually. I had a really great time with her."
"That's brilliant," he smiles. He knows of my issues with my friends, but he also told me something that made me think. These people may seem bad to you, but that's only your perspective. Not everyone is going to be like you or share your views and the sooner you see that, the easier it will be to accept people. And so I'm trying to do that. I'm trying to remember that they're different from me and they're going through stuff too.
"What have you been doing?" I ask.
"Well I was supposed to be going to dinner with my parents and Peyton, but they cancelled. I went straight to town after school because I thought I could fit in some shopping, but when they cancelled I figured I'd just come home."
"So have you not eaten?" I ask and a sheepish expression crosses his face.
"I knew I forgot something." I look up and note the next stop on the tube, trying to locate a good place for us to get off.
"Okay, two stops down we're getting off."
"But our houses are three then a change?"
"You think I don't know that?" I counter with a raised eyebrow and grin. "I just figured since you've not eaten that we could go grab something before going home."
"But you've already had food," he says.
"I don't mind, that was hours ago," I say. "I'll just get something small."
"No I don't want to put you out of your way," he says and I stare at him.
"I don't care. Your opportunity is almost up." The train grinds to a halt at the stop and I see him quickly debate in his head. People begin getting off.
