Started With a Tube - Chapter 14
Meet me on the corner by the bus stop in twenty minutes?
I wake up by the sound of my phone buzzing with this message from Alec, which makes me groan. He's an early riser, something I have never been. He knows this and he uses it against me all the time.
I fling my legs out of bed and have the world's quickest shower, followed by pulling on some warm clothes which consist of black leggings, a loose white vest top and a seriously oversized jumper, the sleeves bunched up at my wrists. I decide to leave my hair free of its plait and it settles in thick waves. I pull a beanie on over my hair and apply a bit of mascara, then I'm done. I pull on a pair of woolly socks and my brown ankle boots, grabbing my jacket and bag from the chair by my door.
I figure since there isn't much breakfast food in the house that I can just get some when I'm out, so I shout bye to mum and let myself out of the house. It's around half nine and it's really cold. Frost lines the ground so I do my best not to fall.
"And here was me thinking you'd be late," Alec grins, dipping down to kiss me when he sees me.
"And here was me thinking I'd get a lie in today," I reply, taking hold of his hand as he begins walking.
"You look beautiful, by the way."
"Thank you," I reply with a smile.
"Have you eaten?" he asks, sniffling a little.
"Nope, can we get something? I'm really in the mood for Starbucks." He nods and so we make our way there, ordering Christmas drinks and pastries which Alec pays for. He does that a lot; pays for stuff. I used to object but don't see the point in it now. Alec argued that he has tons of money so he may as well use it. And my only source of income is the money I get when mum gives me money for lunch and I keep the change.
We sit inside, due to the freezing temperatures out. The windows are misted up and the air feels damp because of the heat coming from the coffee machines.
"So how are you today?" Alec asks, stirring his coffee, coughing into his hand.
"I'm alright yeah," I nod. "Mum and dad were so chuffed when I told them about Sandy and everything yesterday."
"I bet," he grins.
"How are you?" I ask. "Has that cold cleared up yet?"
"Cold?" he asks. "I don't have a cold."
"Well your constant sneezing and coughing says otherwise," I tease.
"Ah it's nothing," he shrugs absently. "It's just the temperature."
"It's so cold today," I agree. "I reckon it dropped like ten degrees overnight."
"At least," he nods. "I don't mind it though, I love winter."
"Favourite season?"
"Probably, but to be honest I like them all."
"I like autumn best," I decide.
"Autumn is pretty great," Alec nods. "We met in autumn."
"Is that what makes it so great?" I ask with a smile.
"Plays a part, definitely," he teases.
"How long have we known each other now then?"
"Like three months?" he says. "Roughly."
"That's pretty long," I say. "Feels like longer though."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, it feels like I've known you forever."
