Izzy's POV

I try to rub the sleep from my eyes but it doesn't work.
I got little to no sleep last night because all I could think about was how to skip school without Dad or Mom finding out.
Around six in the morning I had come to the conclusion that after Dad drops me off, I'll walk up to the school like I'm going in and when he's out of sight I'll book it for the diner. Not the best plan I could have come up with, but it's better than doing something stupid like telling Dad I'll take the bus. He knows I hate the bus so I would look suspicious.

"Isabelle!" Dad calls my name from down stairs.
"Start getting ready for school!"
With that, I jump out of bed and throw on a beige turtle neck and black leggings before heading downstairs.
"Are you gonna eat breakfast here or at school today?" He asks.
"School." I tell him.

Actually I'll be having breakfast at the diner down the street from my school, but thanks for offering.

"Alright then. Let's get a move on girl." I pick my bag up off the ground and head out the door.
Opening the passenger side door to my Dad's white car, I get in.
"I won't be able to pick you up so you're Mom said she would."
I nod.

So that means I have to be waiting outside of my school at two-forty. That means I'll have quite a bit of time to spare.

I open the front pocket of my backpack to see if I have any money in there. I do. Around fifteen dollars.
"Whatcha looking for?" Dad asks.
I quickly zip the pocket back up and send a small smile his way.
"Just seeing if I remembered my sparkly pens." I say.
He gives me a weird look.
"Since when do you like sparkles?" He asks, confused.
I then reopen the pocket and pull out a sparkly pen. It's black with red sparkles on it.
"Oh, alright."

Thank god I actually did have that pen on me. Thank you Irene.

The car comes to a stop, startling me.
"Why are you so jumpy today?" Dad asks.
"I just....can't wait for lunch!" I lie.
He nods.
"Well have a good day sweetheart." Dad kisses my forehead before I jump out the car.
"Bye!" I wave to my dad as he drives away.
Once he's out of sight, I turn and sprint in the direction of the diner. As I'm running, people give me weird glances and some stare at me.
One person was staring at me so I yelled, "Have you never seen a kid before?" as I passed.
That made them turn away real quick.
It doesn't take me long at all to get to the small diner. As I approach it I smile at its faded teal color.

I haven't been here in forever.

Taking in a deep breath, I walk up the three old creeky steps and push open the door.
I hear a small bell ring that indicates a customer has entered.
I look up and stare at the small golden bell for a moment.
"Isabelle?"
My head snaps to the direction where the voice came from.
Sitting at a booth near the back is a man who looks to be in his mid thirties. He waves me over.
Cautiously, I make my way over to him. Now that I'm a bit closer to him I notice that he has square black glasses. He also has really dark brown hair and a smile plastered on his face.
I smile back and sit across from him.
"Brenton?" I ask.
He nods.
"It's so grand to meet you Isabelle!" He has a slight British accent.
"Well it's a pleasure to meet you too Sir. Also, just call me Izzy."
His smile is bright.
"Of course!"
A waitress walks over with a small notepad in her hand.
"What can I get you two?" She asks.
"I'll have straight black coffee with a cream cheese bagel."
Brenton tells her.
She writes it down and then turns to me.
"Order whatever you want."
He says.
"I'll have chocolate milk and some scrambled eggs and bacon."
She hits down my order and walks off with a, "Your food will be done shortly."

"So how old are you now?" He asks me.
"Uh, fourteen." I say.
"I hope life isn't being a burden to you. You're too young to be going through all this."
I nod.
"I just want to find Andy. It has always felt like a part of me was missing. I finally know why."
I say with a frown.
"Here your food and drinks."
The waitress says with a small smile on her face.
"Thank you." Brenton and I say at the same time.
"No problem sugars." She says before walking over to another table.
"What exactly do you want to know?" I ask.
He stares at his cup of coffee, lost in thought.
"I want to know how you're doing and how your parents are.
I want to know how much everything still impacts you all."
Brenton seems like a nice guy and everything, but him saying that makes me want to punch him in the face.
"I'm not doing so well."
I say, lifting my glass to my lips.
"I just found out a couple days ago about everything.
"Really?" He asks, setting down his bagel.
"They probably would have never told me if I didn't walk in on them talking about it."
I pick up my fork and shove some eggs into my mouth.
"Fascinating," He mumbles.
"I always just assumed that you knew."
I shake my head.
"I always thought that my mom abandoned me and people would say that she was crazy. Now I know that she's just desperate to find out anything about my brother." I say.
"Anyone in your mom's situation would want to know. I'm surprised your dad doesn't."

This guys just gonna keep adding fuel to the fire, isn't he?
