Tonight was the night of the dance. George was going with a girl called Marissa, Paul was going with someone (he still wouldn't tell us), and I'm going by myself. I'm going for the food. I hope it's actually good this time. I heard last time they didn't even have food, they only had water.

I was about to leave when I heard a knock on my door. "Y/n! It's for you!" My mum called.

I ran into the other room and saw Paul was at the door. "Hey y/n." He smiled nervously. I gave him a confused look.

"I'll give you two privacy." My mom said and left me with Paul. Why would we need privacy?

"Hi Paul." I walked up closer to him.

"Do you want to go to the dance with me?" He asked.

"Didn't you have a date?" I asked.

"Well, I kinda lied. She's going with someone else, George." He looked sad.

"Oh." I felt bad for him. "I'll go with you."

"Are you ready now or..?" He held out his hand and I grabbed it.

"Bye mum! I'm going to the dance!" I smiled.

"You have a date?!" She sounded shocked and ran to the front door.

"Rude." I muttered under my breath. Paul caught what I said and chuckled.

"I need a picture!" She hurried around my house and picked up her camera.

"Mum!" I laughed.

"Don't look like your forced to go with eachother." She motioned for us to get closer to eachother. Paul was quite photogenic, so he had no problem with this. However, I always looked awkward in pictures. She took the picture.

"Bye mum." I said again.

"Have fun!" She waved and Paul and I went into his car.

"I like your mum." Paul giggled.

"Sorry Paul, she's married. Besides, I wouldn't want you to be my dad." I teased.

"Not like that! And I'd make a great dad!" He responded.

"Not my dad." I folded my arms.

"Yeah, that'd be weird." He laughed. We got to the school and he opened the door for me.

"Thanks." I blushed at his kindness. However, I'm not in love with him and he's not in love with me. We're going as friends.

When we walked in the first person I saw was George. I looked at Paul, he seemed sad that Marissa was with George. "I'm sorry Paul."

"Oh it's ok." He smiled. "I'm here with you. Come on, let's go dance!" He grabbed my hand and guided me to where everyone was dancing. A slow song came on. "May I?" He held out his other hand.

"Of course." I chuckled, and instead of grabbing his hands, I put my hands behind his neck. He seemed very nervous, and he put his arms on my waist.

We danced with eachother. I noticed other girls starring at him, so I put my head in the crook of his neck. It was fun messing with these girls. It really made Paul nervous.

Paul started to hum along to the song. I felt a bit awkward honestly dancing this close to him. Being this close to him. I mean I love him, but as a friend.

When the song finished we parted. "Do you want to get some food?" I asked.

"You are just like George." Paul snickered.

"But food is just so good!" I ran over to the food and grabbed a cookie, right as someone else was grabbing the same one. I looked up and saw George.

"You can have that one." He giggled. "Also hello."

"H-hi George." I said, not moving my hand. I was just starring at him. I must look like a creep, so I quickly looked away.

"Here." He chuckled, putting the baked delight in my hand. "You enjoying the dance so far?"

"Y-yeah." I nodded. "Paul asked me."

"So you're the bird he fancies?" He asked, taking a bite of his cookie.

"No, the girl he was going to ask already had a date, like mine did." I said awkwardly. I glanced over at Paul, he was speaking to Marissa.

"Are you enjoying the dance?" I asked the cute boy. My heart was racing, still.

"Yeah, but I'm afraid Marissa isn't." He frowned. "I don't think she likes me that much."

"George." I put my hand on his arm, unintentionally. "I bet she's having an amazing time."

"I think I'm going to ask her to be my girlfriend." He said and I nearly choked on my cookie.

"If you like her that much, you should." I said, and he smiled.

"Then I will." If that makes him happy then so be it. I want him to be happy.

Paul came up to me, dancing and singing to the song that was on. It was one of my favorites.

"That'll be the day, when I die." He sang and danced around me, making me laugh. I sang along with him, and danced with him. He twirled me at the end.

"How are you feeling?" Paul asked.

"I'm fine, and you?" I asked Paul.

"I'm okay. Marissa says she really likes George." Paul frowned.

"George said he was going to ask her to be his girlfriend." I felt tears come to my eyes. Poor Paul, I saw his face drain color.

"Well, shite." He laughed, a nervous laughed.

"I'm sorry Paul." I frowned. Paul looked around and took me closer to George and Marissa, who were dancing with eachother.

"I'm sorry in advance." Paul said, then made sure George and Marissa saw us, and he kissed me. I immediately pulled away.

"Paul.." I looked at him.

"I'm sorry." He pulled me closer. "I just want to make them jealous." He whispered.

"They won't be jealous if they're happy with being together." I told the little airhead.

"Then can you at least give us a chance?" Paul asked.

"Paul...you like me?" I looked at the boy. What was he planning?

"Yes! Ok! I'm sorry, I know you like George. I like Marissa, but I like you way more!" He explained. "It broke my heart when you said no one likes you! I like you, y/n!" Everyone stared at us, including George and Marissa.

"Paul..." I felt tears run down my face. I didn't know what to do. Paul liked me, but I didn't like him in that way. I looked at George, then Paul. George would never like me, so I might as well. I pulled him into a hug. "I dont know if it's fair to you though."

"Y/n." He pulled me away so he could look at me. "You don't have to, I can take you home right now if you want." I shook my head.

"I think you like Marissa though, not me. I think you're just really hurt." I said quietly so no one else would hear.

"I guess that could be the case..." He mumbled.

"I think it is Paul, but you tell me by the end of this month. If you still like me like that, then we can talk about it. Okay?"

"Okay." He nodded.

"I'm sorry that you weren't able to go with Marissa."

"I'm sorry you weren't able to go with George."
