Chapter Two- Sibling Rivalry
I jogged the rest of the way home, hoping to get that Knight kid off my mind. Of course, that didn't happen, so I was left with all those thoughts on top of being out of breath.
I stopped dead in my tracks when I reached the back door and closed my eyes, pushing away anything that wasn't nessicary to function today. Emotions and feelings did not make that list.
I unlocked the back door, intending to go up the back stairs, just in case anyone happened to be home. Unlikely, but a possibility nonetheless.
"What are you doing?" A shrill voice pierced through the silence. One I'd thought I'd heard for the last time a long while ago.
My oldest sister, Aria. The Wicked Witch of the West.
We hadn't seen Aria in almost a year. She ditched last December just before Christmas and never bothered to tell us why. And she took something I needed with her.
How's that for a Christmas present? Merry Christmas, guys! I'm leaving without a trace this year, catch ya' never!
She looked just like April. Tall, thin, and absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful. Nothing like me. They both had long, blonde hair, big blue eyes and evenly tanned skin. Big chests, perfect curves, graceful movements. I swear to god, they were real-life Barbies. I was nothing like either of them. I mean, I can't say that I cared. I'd rather fly under the radar than be labeled the school slut like they were. (Rightfully so...)
"And what happened to your head?" She added as an after thought.
"Screw off," I signed, and she gave me a blank look.
Oh, that's right. She's been MIA for the past year, so she wouldn't know how to read whatever I signed. I started learning to sign in the hospital after the crash, so I wasn't great, but it worked.
I reached behind me and pulled out the classic white board and marker, and I wrote what I had previously said.
"Well, shouldn't you be in school?" She asked. As if she actually cared.
I shrugged and headed inside, completely ignoring anything she had to say. It didn't matter to me anymore. To be honest, nothing that whore said ever meant anything to me.
I swung the door open and headed inside, intending to shut it behind me, but I had to stop when Aria stuck her foot in the door. I rolled my eyes and pushed on the door pretty hard, hearing her yelp in pain before holding the door open to let her in. I kicked off my shoes by the back door and headed for the kitchen.
I got a glass from the cabinet, reaching into the fridge to get some juice, and I continued to pretend that my sister wasn't here. It was easier than pretending that I had missed her, because I most certainly hadn't, just like I hadn't missed my sperm doner. They walked out on us. Left us when we needed them the most.
Alec was the only one I wished was still here....
Aria and da- Carson had a choice. They chose to leave us on our own. Alec didn't get a choice. He was taken away from us. Just like that. Those mother fu-
No, Annalise. Below you, remember?
"So, how've things been around here while I've been gone?" Just like that, Aria broke into my thoughts. I turned to face her, and she was now sitting on a stool at the island.
