Chapter Four-Out Of the Frying Pan and Into the Fire
The rest of the night was completely uneventful, and I didn't run into Dustin or Tristan again after I left them on the roof. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I felt kind of bad about the first part, but I would never admit it. Never in a million years.
I had noticed something about Dustin that I thought was weird, though. He never said hello or goodbye. Ever. I'd never heard him greet anyone, actually. Not that I was around him that long.
So, it was Saturday, and there was a huge party going on at Tyler Marshall's house. Tyler was a senior, and his parents were always away on business, so it made sense that he'd be the one to host the biggest parties. Normally, I wouldn't go anywhere near that type of thing, but April had forced me to go. I have no idea how she heard about this party, because I didn't tell her, but it was whatever. I'd go for a bit and hang out, but I'd be back before the end of the first hour. I wasn't the kind of person to get drunk or stay out all night, in case you couldn't already tell.
Unfortunately, April had given me clothes to wear, which means that if it wasn't completely exposed, it was really tight. I never really wore things like that, so of course, I was highly uncomfortable. She forced me into heels, too, so I was probably going to break something.
I was wearing what were quite possibly the tightest skinny jeans I had ever seen. The shirt she had forced me into had no back, just a tie at the very top and the very bottom, and was a shimmery black. It was supposed to be a bit tight on you, but April was a size bigger than me, so it was just a smidge loose on me. Not because she was heavier, no, but because she was...well, more gifted. If you know what I mean. She wouldn't let me wear a tank top under it either, so I was stuck wearing a...I don't even know what they're called. Those sleeveless sports bra-type things that aren't actually bras, they just cover them. The heels were plain black, and they were ankle-length boots.
In otherwords, I felt like a whore. I was pretty sure I didn't really look too much like one, because everywhere important was completely covered, I was just used to bigger clothes. The scar on my forehead just added to my self-consciousness.
I had what I now called my pen in my purse, but I doubted that I would need it, and I was moping the entire drive to Tyler's house. April just laughed as we pulled up in front of it.
"Have fun, kid. Call me if you need a ride home," She laughed, and I stuck my tongue out at her. I really didn't see why I couldn't have just drove mysef here, because I had a driver's license and all, but she insisted. I knew she had plans, so I couldn't see why. Maybe she was hoping that I'd find some guy to hang with for the night.
I knew right away that was not going to happen.
I could pratically feel a bunch of stares on me the moment I walked in the door. I was sure it was only because I was not the type to show up at these things. Everyone was invited, so I knew it wasn't that, but it was still very uncomfortable for me.
I wandered a bit, just trying to find my way around this place. It was a pretty big house, bigger than I expected, and I didn't want to do something stupid like get lost.
In most of the house, the lights were off and there were all different colored strobe lights going all over the place. The only room on the first floor with an actual light on was the kitchen. Upstairs was pretty well lit, but there were couples making out at every last turn, and I didn't even want to think about what was going on in the bedrooms.
In the back yard, there was a huge deck and an inground pool, fake tiki torches surrounding them both and illumating the entire back yard. The music was just as loud out here, and there were dozens of half-naked, drunk teens swimming.
