You were sitting on your bed against the headboard, your knees to your chest as you read your book. The thin blanket covered your legs as you read, engrossed in what you were reading. In the background was the sound of heavy rain hitting your window. You liked it, personally; it was relaxing to you - the consistent, calming sound of rain water tapping on glass. Then, there was a loud boom, followed by a quick flash of brightness coming through your window. Thunder and lightning. You thought nothing of it, but through the doorway to your room, you saw your restless boyfriend, Michael.
His eyes were shut closed, his hands in his hair. He walked around in small circles in the hallway, all while breathing rapidly. You could see his shoulders rising and falling fast. He bit his bottom lip in an attempt to control his breathing to his nose, but it didn't work.
"Mikey?" you called. You knew he never loved thunderstorms, but you always seemed to forget how bad it was. He looked up at you. You softened at how vulnerable he seemed. "Come here."
He walked over and sat down on the edge of the bed, covering his ears. You opened your arms for him to cuddle up into, which he did wholeheartedly. You held him in your arms securely, wanting nothing more than to make him feel safe and forget about anything making him anxious.
His arms were around your waist, the side of his head dug into your chest. You had one arm wrapped around his back, your other hand on the back of his head. You petted his hair, often just running your fingers through it. Your head was leaned down on top of his, so he was really just engulfed in your hold.
"Are you okay, Mikey?" you whispered, lifting his bangs to kiss his forehead. He just nodded. "Want to lie down?" He nodded again.
Together, you layed down onto the bed and pulled the blanket to cover you both. His long legs were tangled together with yours, but you didn't mind. He had an arm lazily rested over you as you faced each other.
"I love you," he said with a small smile and closed eyes. He seemed to have forgotten about the storm. He had been scared of those since he was just a kid.
     "Love you, baby."
