Briar's POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My hands shook as I held my gun up, pointing to no one in particular as I stood in complete darkness.
"Briar..." the voice whispered.
"Who are you? Come out and face me!" I called out.
"Briar..." The voice became louder.
"Turn around." The voice said.
Slowly I turned to find myself starring into a pair of familiar grey eyes.
"No, it can't be. You're not real!" I gasped as a sharp pain shot through my stomach. I looked down and my blood went cold. I fell to my knees, grasping at the dagger lodged in my stomach. I learned long ago never to pull out whatever has impaled you, it makes things worse, but the pain was unbearable. I yanked out the dagger and soundlessly screamed as blood poured from the wound. The voice's laugh echoed through my ears, as I lost consciousness.
"Briar!" I shot up to find myself inches away from another face, starring into a pair of emerald green eyes, which were worriedly starring back. I wiped my forehead and found myself drenched in sweat. It was just a nightmare. Right? I pulled off the covers and inspected my stomach. Nothing. Yet I could still feel where the cold blade had been. An arm wrapped around my shoulder and rubbed my back.
"Another nightmare?"
I leaned into Adrian and laid my head on his shoulder.
"Yeah." I mumbled.
Almost every night for the past two months I had been having the same nightmare, each night it got worse. Tonight was the first time I had seen a glimpse of the voice, but it wasn't the first time I had died.
"Want to talk about it?" he asked.
I shook my head and Adrian frowned, but for once he didn't question me any further.
"Well on a happier note..."
He pulled out a box which held a small cupcake with a candle in it.
"Happy birthday."
He kissed my cheek and I gave him a small smile. I was now 20. The same age as Adrian, until he turned 21 in a few months. Four years. Four years I have been here, four years since our fight, four years since I "lost" my memory from his potion I drank. To this day I still don't know why it hadn't worked. Four years of faking that I was in love with Adrian, and vice versa. Of course he doesn't know I remember everything.
Four years ago I went on a mission to save Kaylee, a young girl who was training at the Agency of Elite Spies with me and many others. Adrian, ex spy and wanted enemy of the AES, trapped me and we made a deal, not, that I had much of a choice. Kaylee's life for my freedom. Well, he made me fall in love with him, and pretended to love me to gain my trust. Sadly it worked. I found out the truth when he told Clara, my only friend and motherly figure at this place, and had I overheard.
Well with my temper, I barged in and made another deal. We fight, I win; Kaylee, Clara, and I go free. He wins; Clara goes away, Kaylee and I stay, and I take a potion to forget the truth. I lost. When I woke after taking the potion he asked me to marry him, and I said yes. Yet, I remembered it all. He told me Clara was out on an assignment, and would be for awhile. I haven't seen her in four years. After that I pushed the marriage back as long as possible. First I said we were too young, he agreed. As soon as I was 18 he tried again. I said I wanted to wait until I was 20. It took some convincing but he let it go. I thought by now I could have gotten away, but he never leaves me alone. Literally.
If I go out I have to be with him or at least 3 guards, "for my protection." I say I can fend for myself (I can) and ask who would hurt me and Adrian just tells me he knows I can take care of myself, but he has enemies and wants me to be safe. A lie of course, but I'm not in a position to call him out on that. Here I am now to be married in three months, no ifs ands, or buts. Three months to get my revenge. Three months to find Clara. Three months to get Kaylee and myself out. I sighed and blew out the candle on my cupcake.
"Now, get out so I can change and I'll meet you for breakfast." I told Adrian.
"Or I could stay here and wait."
He winked at me and I scoffed.
"Out."
He pouted but kissed me cheek again and left. I have to say, he is an amazing actor. I rubbed my head as I looked for clothes. Since it's July, (22nd to be exact) I threw on some comfortable clothes I could workout in later and went to the bathroom for makeup. I was now 5'6, my once golden hair now a dull lifeless blonde. My hair was around halfway down my back and super thin, probably from all of the stress. I have some muscle now since I workout everyday, hitting punching bags until they break (and sometimes Adrian) to let off my steam. I've also lost a lot of weight, more so from stress than exercise.
I threw on my usual makeup and tried to cover the dark bags under my eyes I've gotten from my lack of sleep, curtsey of the nightmares. I left the room, content with my appearance, and headed down to breakfast in this hell in which I must live in.
Happy birthday to me.
First chapter!
