Adrian's POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I sat at my desk with my head in my hands. Dammit! I slammed my fist down. Why did I have to take her out, I should have known he would try something like this, I should have taken the threats more seriously. I swept my arm across my desk, throwing everything on it to the ground. How could I be so stupid?
First, I pressure her into moving into my room, then I try and make wedding plans, which she always avoids, next I let her get poisoned right in front on me, and on top of it all I changed her clothes while she was unconscious, which he clearly didn't like. Before I wouldn't have cared, I've seen many women in much less before, and done many things with those women, but Briar and I have done nothing. I've of course tried many times but she always shoots me down, and for some reason I let her. I don't know why I care what she thinks about me seeing her half naked. But I have to say, even poisoned and all,
Wow.
That girl has a hot body. I grinned at the thought of it and shook my head. No, I have more important matters to attend to. Like catching and killing the bastard thats been demanding I hand over Briar ever since he found out I had her. At first I had planned to trade her for some expensive weaponry and a lot of money, but after seeing the skills she possessed and the ability she had, I decided to keep her for awhile instead. Besides, she turned out to be a lot of fun to mess with. She was also a complete pain to train, yet she'd progressed amazingly. Kaylee also became quite skilled once Briar had begun to teach her. She hadn't known that I'd been watching her train Kaylee, but I found she made an excellent teacher, and thats when I decided I wanted her for myself.
Of course, the man I had originally made the deal with, James Fallow, a friend of my fathers, thus an enemy of mine, was not happy when I told him the deal was off. He bargained at first, then began to threaten me when I refused to make another deal. For 2-3 years he left me alone and I had figured he'd lost interest. I was wrong. Unknown to myself, he'd been spying on her, on our dates, each year he was at the ball when I took her and I hadn't known until one of my spies informed me. He had been there all that time, watching, plotting, waiting. About five months ago he gave me one last deal for her, I denied it. He threatened my life, as well as hers then. I never understood his obsession with Briar and why he wanted her so bad.
I still don't.
A knock at my door shook me form my thoughts.
"Come in." I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding when a servant walked in and handed me an envelope. I don't know what I'd been expecting really. Briar can barely move, nor would she have knocked if she could stormer way down here, and the chances Mr. Fallow would have come and knocked on my door to have a civil chat were pretty slim.
Inside the envelope, a letter.
"I did warn you Mr. Silver, now that you see how incapable you are of keeping Miss Blue safe from me, perhaps you'll reconsider my offer. I will give you two weeks for a response. And as for Miss Blue, I suggest jasmine tea to remove the toxins, for I don't want her exquisite self to be down and ruined for too long. And do pass along to her that she has an impressive kick, my guards arm has a nasty break thanks to her."
J.S.F.
I sighed in frustration and shoved the letter into my desk. I can't let her out of my sight, or even this cove, anytime soon until I come up with a plan. I headed back to my room only to stop by the kitchen and order a jasmine tea to be brought down later. I rubbed my eyes as exhaustion began to overtake me. How am I going to kill this guy, and keep Briar safe?
