"Hayley open up, I know you're in there." Jack's muffled voice resonated through the heavy door.

The knocking was persistent as I ran around to gather my things and put some clothes on.

"Stay in my room. Do not leave, I'm serious." I warned Jacob quietly.

"I can hear you running around Hayley, just please open up." Jack continued.

"What's up?" I opened the door and shielded as much of my body as I could behind it. My skirt was crooked, my shirt was nearly sideways, my greeting sounded too perky as I had forgotten how livid I was at him. I cleared my throat and waited as I put on a stern face.

"Can I come in?" He stepped one foot forward as I instinctively closed the door a fraction.

"Uh.." I thought through how I'd fix my clothes as he entered. "Sure."

I let go of the door and quickly darted behind it as I fixed my skirt and tucked my arm into the right sleeve. I turned and closed the door as he entered. I looked up nervously at my room, hoping Jacob would stay where I told him to.

"What do you want" I said reverting back to my cold status.

"Look, I know you don't want anything to do with me right now." He started.

I looked into his eyes to check if he was high, but from the looks of it, he wasn't. I quickly cut off my gaze as I realised it may have been misleading.

"But I needed to tell you, she honestly meant nothing to me - what I started saying in the car was that sure sometimes I'd find a girl to hook up with, but that was only because I was furious, and I guess.."

"You wanted to hurt me." I cut him off and responded as blandly as I could.

"W- I mean.. Maybe.." He stuttered. "Either way, it was a lie and I'm sorry for lying but-"

I cut him off again. "Jack I'm getting so sick of this back and forth act you're playing. You can't be angry at me one minute then come to my house begging for my forgiveness. Just leave." I opened the door and looked up at my room once more.

"Hayley"

"Leave." I said louder. That's when I heard a noise from my bedroom. Don't do it Jacob. I thought.

Jack seemed to have not heard it as I looked back down to him to find him plunging towards me. He slammed his lips against mine and held my face in his hands. I couldn't deny that I had missed his lips, I had missed the warmth of his breath against my own. Every inch of my body was telling me to give into him, but - quickly as I could - I pushed him away with all my strength.

"Get out!" I said, now yelling.

The door from my room swung open and Jacob stormed down the stairs.

"What the hell is he doing here?" Jack yelled as he watched Jacob descend the stairs.

"The question is - Jack. What the hell are you still doing here." Jacob reached the bottom of the stairs. "When Hayley told you to leave."

His presence was calm and he seemed to know what he was doing.

Jack turned to me with a dissapointed look on his face.

"Hayley" he nearly whimpered.

"She told you to leave, man" Jacob said as he grabbed Jack's arm.

Jack instinctively turned around and swung at Jacob, hard as he could. Jacob's head whipped to the side as he took the shock of the hit.

"Jack leave now!" I screamed in horror as I pushed him out the door.

He didn't refuse this time - instead, he brushed his hand through his hair and kicked the wall before rushing back to his car.

I slammed the door shut behind him and helped Jacob up.

"I'm so sorry, Jacob." I said as I pressed an ice pack gently onto his cheek.

He assured me it was alright at least a hundred times before I finally let it go.

Jack had a small history of violent acts. They were usually only when he was drunk or high - although, rest assured, he never hit me. If he had, he would have been out the door much sooner than now. No, in fact - the small amounts of times Jack ever threw a punch was to protect me from guys I felt uncomfortable around. So maybe Jack was just trying to protect me from Jacob, or maybe it was something that could be leading onto a more violent, more constant state. I knew he'd hit Johnson and Johnson would hit him growing up, just to set each other straight so perhaps that is what began his instictive behaviour.

"You know, I should probably go." Jacob said putting the ice back down on the kitchen counter.

"R-really?" I started to panic, my chances with him were ruined; why would he ever want to come back.

"Yeah, your mom's going to be home in a few minutes, I don't want to get you in trouble." He stood up and I followed his lead. "But.. I'd like to see you again."

I smiled and looked away. I felt his hand rest under my chin and lift it up toward him. With his other hand he gently tapped my nose before leaning down and kissing me once more.

Jacob was soon out the door and I was back to being alone. That's when the thoughts came rushing in. I had been distracted for the past half hour, trying to aid Jacob - but now that I was alone, I started to process everything.

It had taken me five months to give myself to Jack the way I gave myself to Jacob. Perhaps it was just because my first time was with Jack and I was scared, but I couldn't help thinking that maybe I trusted Jacob more. With my body, with my mind..
