"Hey guys, you made it!" Cam said, letting us into his house.
The lights were dim and the music was pumping through the floor. There were people standing, sitting, dancing everywhere. Jack gripped my hand and led the way to the drinks bar. He poured us a pink looking drink that I smelt before trying. It had a strong alcoholic smell but I decided I needed to stop being so tense, and let myself have a drink. Before I knew it we had had seven cups of the drink and were drunk dancing together.
Jack held my hands in his and spun me around occassionally. We were both laughing manically as everyone cheered us on. A girl I had never met before made her way into the middle of the dancefloor and looked at us before choosing a guy from the crowd to pull in with her. I looked at Jack in confusion as she looked over to Mahogany on the DJ set. Mahogany nodded and turned on Bass Down Low by DEV and The Cataracs. The song was ancient, but I knew where it was headed. The song bass dropped and she started going for it. She grabbed the guys hand and made him spin her slowly as she started grinding on him. She did a few more moves before I squeezed Jack's hand and nudged her to stop and look at me. The people around her started wooing as I turned to Jack and danced with him for a bit before I lifted my arm up and turned to face away from him. I started lowering myself to the floor until I was crouching. I got back up with a swift hair flick and gave her a smirk as I waited to see how she would retaliate. The crowd that had formed started ooh-ing now. I laughed as I turned to Jack who was laughing and kissed me on the cheek. The "dance battle" continued into the next song as more people joined in. Until Mahogany changed the music and congratulated us all and broke it off.
Guys started coming up to me to compliment me. I was still laughing as I thanked them all. The girl that started the dance battle came up to me with the guy she was with.
"Hey nice moves." She said smugly.
My laughing died down "Thanks, you too." I looked up at the 6 foot guy behind her and nodded.
They turned and walked away just as Jack came back and kissed me on the cheek again.
"You're smokin' hot, babe" he whispered in my ear as he wrapped his arms around my waist.
I smiled as I looked up at him. I leaned up and kissed him on my tip toes.
Distance came on and I pulled away and started laughing. I turned around in his arms and wrapped mine around his neck. He looked embarrassed as he smiled to the ground and leaned his head against mine. I looked over at Mahogany who gave me a thumbs up; Jack looked over and laughed as we started slow dancing.
Distance was written after one of our significant arguments. The night it was written, we were both sure it was over. Neither of us wanted it to be, but we couldn't see it any other way. "I thought you were the one, but I guess things change." The lyric often scared me. I knew he was angry and upset when he wrote it, but I couldn't help thinking that the thought always lingered in his head; that he could easily change his mind. But the song was written months ago and he had never changed his mind once. He constantly reminded me of how important I was, so the song soon turned into a memory, rather than something we were living with. Johnson's lyrics: "the rhythm and flow that I'm putting on this slow track are gonna make you so sad" used to make me cry on my bad days. Especially when Jack's voice joined in on the last line. The whole song would bring me to tears when the Jacks were on a tour I couldn't go on with them. The argument had a huge impact on the both of us - I often thought it affected me more, but Jack made it so clear how much he loved me, that I knew he'd never feel the way he was feeling when he wrote that song ever again.
"I love you so much." Jack barely got the words out, but I heard him.
"I love you more than I'll ever be able to show." I replied.
Maybe we were being extra emotional because of the amount of alcohol we had consumed, but I was certain I'd be with him forever.

"You guys are very cute." A boy came up to me as the song ended and Jack went to the bathroom.
"Um, thank you" I said, still thinking about Distance.
"I'm Jacob" He said reaching out to shake my hand.
I decided I needed to snap out of it a be polite - this guy looked younger than me but seemed pretty friendly. I reached my hand out to his and shook it. "Hayley"
We spoke for a while, as Jack seemed to be taking some time. Turns out Jacob was a huge Magcon fan and he was friends with Aaron so he got to tag along to all the parties but this was the first I had seen him.
"I've seen you around at these shindigs" He laughed. "You and Jack."
"Really?" I asked. "I'm sorry I've honestly just never seen you before!"
"It's cool, I'm kinda shy until I get a few drinks in me." He explained. "I tend to keep to myself. In fact, I don't even know why I'm drinking tonight, I hate the taste of alcohol"
I laughed and stroked his arm briefly - mostly just to keep myself from falling flat on my face.
"Hey what's going on." Jack said returning.
"Uh, Jack, hey this is Jacob." I said quickly. "He was keeping me company whilst you were in the bathroom."
"Nice to meet you Jacob, see you around." Jack said dismissively.
"I- uh.." I shrugged as Jack pulled me away and waved goodbye.
Jacob smiled and nodded as if he understood and went in the opposite direction.
