chapter 7

*Steph's POV*

Upon waking up I realized that I wasn't in my bed, but in an escape pod much like the one in Subnautica, Jaden being across from me asleep. The fire wasn't put out so I got up and put it out after looking for the fire extinguisher a solid minute or two. Looking in the compartment I took out the water and nutrient block just incase I went too far from the pod and couldn't make it in time. I definitely didn't want to die from starvation or dehydration.

Just before I left the pod I heard Jaden stir and looked to see her waking up. She got up and went to the compartment grabbing her share of the food and water as I had done.

"One of us should focus on looking for supplies while the other looks for the others and picks up what they can on the way." I said looking around at the state our pod was in.

"I'm fine with either and don't mind grinding for materials." Jaden said climbing the ladder.

"I'd rather look for the others, if you see someone tell them to meet here at nightfall?" I suggested as a way to get everyone together to talk about what we're doing.

"Sounds good to me, but if someone tells me different I'll show up here first to meet with you and we'll head there together."

"That's a good idea, see you later then, be careful." I said before leaving the pod through the hatch that lead straight to the ocean water.

There wasn't much in the area we started off in, but I grabbed a couple of fish for food later. As a swam through the waters I felt calm and decided to go up to the surface, close me eyes, and float for a couple of seconds. During that time I wasn't myself, I was a wave being pushed around by the other water around me and the attractive pull of the moon. I was the earth, full of life and nutrients for plants and animals. I was the wind blowing softly against my cheek spreading oxygen and other much needed elements to plants and animals alike. I was a part of the world around me needing the other parts as much as they needed me.

Upon opening my eyes I saw a figure surface and breath deeply as if they had been swimming underwater for too long and felt a burn in their lungs due to the lack of oxygen being given to the body. While swimming towards them I was able to recognize the soft wavy hair and loving brown eyes of the figure. It was Monica, she's more than a friend to me and so is Jaden, they're both like sister's to me, but Monica could also be a motherly figure as well despite her only being a year older than me.

When I was in close enough range that she could hear me I shouted out to her. "GOAT MUM! KATAKATAKOW!!"(That last bit may seem like gibberish, but it's the call of the Unitato that a good friend thought of and Monica and I have adopted it since we ourselves are unitatoes.)

"KATAKATAKOW!!" I heard in response I was elated that she heard me so that I wouldn't have to chase after her; she's more athletic than I am.

We both swam closer to each other so we could talk instead of yelling across the waves. I began to see another pod in the distance, I can't be sure but for the moment I can guess that it's Monica's and whoever she's with shouldn't be too far away.

"Hey, it's nice to see that you're alright my child." Monica said once we met up in the middle of the space that was in between us.

"It's good to see that you're alright as well mother." I replied with a smile, "Is that your pod in the distance?"

"Yeah it is, I'm sharing my pod with Nate, what about you?"

"I'm with Jaden, we're over there, that tiny speck in the distance." I said pointing out the pod which had just become a faint speck on the horizon.
