Chapter 5- Just Making Sure You Weren't Some Creepy StalkerA snort came from in front of us, and I turned away from Riley to look at Ty. He was giving us, or mainly me, a withering look. "Okay, first off, we can hear every word you're saying, and it is most definitely a good thing. And as for the brilliance of the situation; of course it's bloody brilliant!" He pointed an accusing finger at me. "Girls would kill to be in your situation, and yet you don't seem thrilled by it."
I shot a matching look back to him. "My my, I wonder why?"
"I wonder why brown cows can't fly?"
Very slowly, Ty, Riley and myself turned to Archer, who grinned at us. He sent me an encouraging look, and I grinned back at him and mouthed, You're on.
"If they did, then I'd slap Ty."
Ty gaped at me in mock hurt, hand against his heart, while Archer laughed and held his hand up for a high-five. I took it, rising slightly out of my seat to reach it.
"If she did, Ty would cry."
Ty glared at Riley. "Then Riley would get his ass kicked to the sky."
Riley gave Ty what was supposed to be an intimidating look, but he was trying not to laugh, so it didn't really work. "Bring it on, big guy."
Even Ty cracked a half grin at that.
When Mrs. Stratham called for us to pay attention, I noticed that Ty looked incredibly relaxed in his seat. I thought back to when I'd first met him. He'd been extremely uptight and looked bored and almost uncomfortable. Now, he seemed alive and calm. It was so different. I wondered what had caused such a change? Was he just naturally a bipolar, moody person?
I had no trouble believing that.
Well, actually, no. As I thought about it, I realised that for some reason, I doubted it. Yes, I could imagine him having anger issues and a temper, but I didn't think he could change as quickly as he had this morning.
I tried to ignore Ty and listen to Mrs. Stratham, but I always found my thoughts going back to him. It was barely the first day, and I already couldn't get a guy out of my head. Not in the way of that I liked him, but instead I found myself intrigued by him. He was a mystery. A real life mystery, not one in a book. That excited me more than I thought a bit of action would. But still, it was school time and Mrs. Stratham was a serious and work focused teacher. I had to be work focused to match her. That was part of my nature when I wanted it to be.
So why wasn't it working now?
"Five worksheets! We already had to do a partner character analysis this morning. Why do we have to analyse ourselves?!"
Ty groaned. "More to the point, why do we have to do it over five pages?"
Archer and I shared an amused look. We had received five sheets of paper that had to be filled in by the end of the week. The questions were simple; where do your ancestors come from, what are your beliefs, etc, etc, but Ty and Riley seemed like they had suffered a great loss and pain. Honestly, I was just celebrating over the fact that that was all we got for homework. I mean, Mrs. S was rumoured to be terrible. But this wasn't so bad. In fact, I found myself thoroughly enjoying my time in her class.
"What's next?" I queried to Archer as Ty and Riley continued to talk. Even though Ty wasn't in the group, the two seemed to get along incredibly well. Then it clicked. I added the conversation I had when I first met Archer to my conversation at the table in morning tea. Ty and Archer had been invited to join the grex, which must've meant that Ty was friends with some of them. Or at least friendly enough acquaintances that they would stand him to get Archer. But as I watched Riley and Ty laughing and joking around together, I decided it was the former.
