CHAPTER THREE
LONELINESS

MILLIE ENDED UP TALKING TO Finn until 8:00 P.M. before he started slurring on his words and soon, falling asleep.

She sighed in contentment before she slept with a joyful mood.

The next morning, however, she never expected that happy demeanour to fade so soon.

5:00 A.M.

Millie woke up to the sun making contact with her eye lids. She rubbed her droopy eyes to liven herself up. She yawned as she stretched her arms upwards, her back bones cracking satisfyingly.

She sat up, and turned to her right to reach the phone sitting on her desk. She hastily typed the password which was hers and Finn's anniversary. October 24. 1, 0, 2, 4.

Hi, finnie! Morning. She typed in, buying her lip and anticipating for his reply.

Finn replied in seconds and Millie clicked on the message quickly, with a smile- that dropped into a small frown of disappointment fast, as she read his message.

GM Peaches. I'm busy :( sorry. Talk later?

Millie knew it was petty, but her heart slightly stung at the reply. Maybe it was she expected more. She was so excited to talk to him, but it sorta defused after that simple reply. All her hopes were let down.

I'm busy. Could 2 words really hurt that bad?

Millie decided to get up and officially start her day with a bath. After all, she still had to attend her shift starting 7:30 A.M. at Daycare.

. . .

Millie was now at Starbucks to pick up her usual simple Mocha Frappe. As she was lining up, she got bored of standing up, waiting, doing nothing, like anyone would. She looked around the aromatic cafe of Starbucks, she soon spots a celebrity/gossip channel.

It caught her attention with who she saw on the screen. Finnie.

"The new hottest band Calpurnia is stretching out of the US on the Velocity Music Festival. 'It's thrilling. Definitely a new experience I won't forget' says lead vocalist Finn Wolfhard."

Millie smiled at Finn's words. She stared at the screen admiring the clip of him shaking his head hysterically. She lightly giggled.

"Um, excuse me miss? But it's your turn."

Millie turned around to the tap on her shoulder, "Oh! My apologies." She blushes, walking up to the counter.

"One m-mocha frappe to g-go, please."

. . .

"Alright it's time to pack up, everyone!" Millie announces in a sweet tone to her class of 5 year olds who were engaging in a colouring activity.

Millie smiles at the sight of the miniature people working together fixing their crayons and papers, giggling as they do so.

The bell rings signalling it was departure time.

"Okay! Get your bags, kids! It's time to go!" The kids grabbed their backpacks and lined up in front of Millie accordingly.

Millie led them all outside, and to the gate where all their parents waited.

Their eyes lit up with joy as they saw their children waddling up to them gleefully. Millie can't even express how much she loved those reactions. Golden.

Millie takes in the couples that pick their child individually. She begins to feel a tinge of jealousy forming in her heart. She looks at one of her students, Denise, kissing each of her parents on the cheek. The mother then puts her head on the father's shoulder.

It made Millie feel more lonely than she did. She missed him so much. That emotion was hid and masked with her peachy smile.

"Ms. Millie thank you, again! We will see you tomorrow!" The mother of another one of her students; Johnny Davidson, says. "You're welcome, Mrs. Davidson. Did Johnny have fun today?" Millie flashes a smile at Johnny who nods as he wrapped his arms around his mother's leg.

"Well of course he did. You are such a great teacher! How old are you?"

"Turning 22." Millie replies.

"Why! I bet you have a boyfriend?" Mrs. Davidson questions.

"Indeed." Millie blushes lightly.

"Are you getting married to him yet?" Mrs. Davidson asks in a teasing tone.

"Um... we haven't exactly talked about it." Millie bashfully tucks a strand of her hazel locks behind her ear.

"Well, he's a lucky man! I mean look at you. Sexy, young, with a heart of gold!" Mrs. Davidson exclaims. Millie chuckles, flattered at her words.

Honk! Honk!

"Well, there's our ride! See you, Ms. Millie!"

Millie waved at the pair as they hopped into their car, zooming off.

Millie thought of what Mrs. Davidson said. Are you getting married to him yet?

She knew it wasn't happening anytime soon, but it was still fun to fantasise about.

Millie could imagine Finn's proposal, and his preparations. She imagines when they get married, Millie would wear a white gown with a lacy floral patterned design, and daisies lined up with her veil. She imagines how Paige would be her bridesmaid, Ava as a flower girl.

She could imagine when they have kids. Mini Finn and Millie dancing and running around the house as Finn plays a song on his guitar, and Millie sings.

Millie felt goosebumps on her shoulders, the memories shooting through her brain like an endless shower of meteors, she closes her eyes. As she felt a chill from her heart, disseminating to the different parts of her body.

She knew this feeling. Loneliness.

Millie hugged herself. Knowing no one right now could do so.
