Seryou was sitting on the edge of the roof and he was crying hard.
If any of the adoring girls would see him now, they would not think of him as the over the moon, handsome first year anymore. Or maybe they would... regardless of whether Seryou was laughing or crying, he looked stunning.
This was too much like self-pity and Seryou even at his lowest didn't like it about himself. So he decided to stop crying, wiped his eyes and stood up to come down from the ledge.
"Hey wait! You should not do that!" The voice was really agitated and worried.
Seryou froze and then he slowly turned to the boy standing only a few meters from him. He was obviously upset about something. As smart as Seryou was it still took him about 3 seconds to get how the situation might have looked for the other guy.
A guy standing up on the edge of the roof, eyes bloodshot, probably not the brightest morning face one would want to see in this beautiful morning.
"Hei! It's not like it looks, promise. Can you give me your hand so I can get down from here?"
The guy looked doubtful, but he stepped closer and reached a hand to Seryou. Seryou took the hand and all of a sudden found himself falling. Somehow, in the most unlikely manner, he slipped backwards and at that moment one of the most terrifying falls was stopped by that hand. This, warm and strong hand.
The only thing Seryou could concentrate on was the hand and then when the few seconds of maddening fear was dissipating, a beautiful face looked down on him with concentration.
After a couple of seconds of struggling he was lying on top of the guy who looked like he just got his breath knocked out of him. Well, in all honesty, he probably did.
Seryou gently lifted himself off from the boy who just saved his life. In all honesty, he probably would not have needed saving if the guy hadn't intervened, but Seryou was pretty smart. He knew that this was not the time nor the place to say much of anything.
The other guy was probably almost as scared by his jumping-falling as he had been, and the first initial reaction would be to get angry and nothing but patience and saying sorry would ease that reaction. Seryou sure was right about the anger part.
"What the hell! Do you have something wrong with that pretty head of yours? Didn't enough girls ask you out this week? Are you sure you don't have a serious mental problem?!"
Seryou didn't have to pretend to be surprised about the scolding. It was out of this world, brutally honest and new for him. Nobody talked like this, not to him, anyway. Seryou could only gape at the mad boy. It was as if he even didn't want to say anything just listening to this angry rant was really satisfying and somehow relaxing. It took him away from the meaningless worries he had and didn't want to face just yet.
"Does it alleviate your anger a bit, if I tell you that I wasn't planning on jumping in the first place?"
The guy watched him doubtfully and then to Seryou's utter amazement he smiled, widely.
"Why didn't you say so in the first place? I would have not tried to save you from yourself then." His responses didn't make sense. What was this guy about? Who was he? Seryou had a feeling he had seen him before, but not close enough to remember. Or had they met no more than just in passing?
"Well, I'm Touji Seryou. Won't you mind telling me your name?" Was this the wrong way to make an introduction? Why was the guy looking at him like this? Was it a good or a bad look? Seryou felt really out of sorts. What exactly was going on here? Why didn't this guy introduce himself like was the common custom? Why everything that came out of his mouth seemed like something someone from another society would say?
"Well, it's good to meet you finally Seryou. I've heard a lot about you. I'm Shino Yuzuru."
Seryou literally recoiled away when he heard that name and to not show his reaction to the guy whom name he had just found out, he turned around and leaned onto the ledge. If not for Yuzuru's being there with him, Touji would probably have cried again, but this wouldn't do. To cry in front of a total stranger. A stranger called Shino all the worse.
Couldn't he ever get a break? Would he always be the guy who smiled but actually wanted to cry? This was the self-pity talking again. But if there were no Shinos in this world, he would be so happy. Seryou, not turning to see if his actions offended the guy and not looking at him at all, just stood up and walked past this 'Shino' and left the rooftop.
Yuzuru only watched from the same spot he had stood for the last couple of minutes. The interaction had been short and it obviously left a bad impression on Touji Seryou, but the introduction had been made.
He watched over the edge and shuddered when he thought about the possibility of Seryou falling. What if he could not have grabbed the hand of Seryou? Well, he better not think about this kind of future. Seryou was his escape route and he would do whatever to make him happy and maybe even get some happiness as a side product.
Oh, he really should control his temper, getting angry like this would take away his time quicker...
Yuzuru thought all of this and walked through the stone wall of the school building.
*This is how the first chapter came out. Hope it made you want to read more. Maybe I'll write once a day, maybe a bit less. Other works in progress also, but will do it often.
I'm totally unfamiliar with Japanese culture, so any mistake I make about it, please forgive me!
song: Kim So Hyun - Dream, from drama Bring it on Ghost. The song is sweet and will support the point I was trying to make in this chapter.
I won't stop posting Korean songs with every chapter. You can either listen to them or not, it's your choice :) But every song will support the specific chapter with its lyrics, somehow.
