*knock knock*

I groaned in annoyance as I sat up in bed. I checked the time on my wall clock.

7:10 am

Who the hell is disturbing me?

I'm not going to school today so what's the need of waking up early?

"Who is it?" I asked.

"It's Maria, ma'am"

"What do you want?"

"Your dad wants you to join them for breakfast now, ma'am"

Oh, for the love of God. Why Steve?

"Tell him I'll be down in a minute"

"Okay ma'am"

The sounds of her retreating footsteps could be heard.

I went to the bathroom to wash my mouth with mouthwash since I was too lazy to brush my teeth or floss. When I was done, I put on a pair of Gucci flip flops then headed downstairs.

Breakfast went terribly wrong that morning.

My mom didn't answer me when I greeted her but Gerald and Steve did.

Was I really a disappointment to her?

Here we are having breakfast as a family. Although, it didn't feel that way. It felt like we were too separate to be a family.

Why?

Well, Gerald is eating or rather picking at his greens. He looks lost.

Steve is going over his daily activities in his pocket handbook.

My mom is smoking cannabis while reading her favourite fashion magazine.

Steve looked very uncomfortable with the fact that she was smoking.

"Honey, can you please drop the cigarette" Steve pleaded "It's not right especially in front of the kids"

"I'm an adult Steve. I think I can decide what's right" my mom retorted "Besides, I know what's good for Bella and Gerald. They're mine, remember?"

I gasped.

How could she say such a thing?

Why is she reminding him that he isn't our father?

Steve was a way better father than mine was and a much better parent than she was

"Wow" Steve mumbled "Just great"

He stood up angrily and left the dining area.

"Dramatic ass" my mom said,

Gerald cleared his throat "I think its time for me to get going" Gerald announced "Bye mom. Bye sis"

He grabbed his backpack from the floor then stood up.

"Have a nice day at school, love" my mom called after him.

Now, it was just my mom and I. Boy is this awkward.

I don't think I can stay near this woman or even breathe the same air she did, not after what she said to a man who basically took care of her children when she had nothing... When we had nothing.

"I'm going upstairs" I muttered before getting up.

I went to my room and sent Drew a text as soon as I sat on my bed.

Me: Hey you

Drew: Hey, what's up?

Me: Bored as hell in this house 😴
