Later that day, I appeared on the field twenty minutes late on purpose.
By the time I got there, everyone was already present. The girls were gathered in a circle around coach Ann.
Quickly, I took my place. I stood right next to Madison
"Hey" she said to me with a smile "I've been looking all over for you"
"Sorry. I was a little bit irritated by something. That's why I stormed off the way I did"
"Oh" She pouted "Sorry"
"It's fine"
"Are you okay now?"
"Yes"
She smiled "Good"
I looked around for Leslie.
In a few seconds, my eyes landed on her. She was already staring at me from the opposite side.
"Are you okay?" She mouthed to me.
I nodded.
"Thanks" I mouthed back
She gave me a thumbs up. I smiled at her.
Football practice was going on at the other side of the field.
I spotted Drew and some other guys doing push ups and other exercises that were probably part of their conditioning.
I couldn't help but notice how good Drew looked.
He doesn't even look slightly heartbroken. It even seems like he's happy about the whole situation.
His reaction to the whole thing is what's hurting me the most.
Here I am, crying my eyes out throughout the night because of him. I haven't been able to get any sleep for the past few days yet he isn't even bothered at all.
Could he be grieving on the inside too?
Drew has never been one to let his emotions show. Maybe he's dealing with things differently.
I hope he is because if he isn't, it means everything was all a lie. It would mean he never loved me as much as I thought he did.
I shook my head before I focused my attention back on Coach Ann.
"Hi ladies" she spoke.
"Hi coach" we choruses.
"Today we have a new member on our team. Madison, step out please"
Madison squeezed my hand "Wish me luck".
I gave her a tight lipped smile "Good luck"
I patted her back as she walked into the middle of the circle. The girls clapped their hands to support her.
Wolf whistles could be heard from the guys of the football team
I rolled my eyes.
What do you expect?
They'd die for anything in a crop top and mini skirt.
I looked at Drew to see his reaction.
To my horror, he was staring right at her and she did the same. He winked at her which made her blush.I closed my eyes and took slow deep breaths.
Calm down.
Calm down.
It's not that serious.
"Martin's" Coach Ann called out to me "Is everything alright?"
By the time I opened my eyes, I noticed everyone staring at me.
