It's hard to believe that it's been a year already. I can't remember my life before him and yet it feels like it hasn't been long enough. We've settled into a good routine. Every day I get to drive to and from work, we make dinner together, then spend the evening together. Sometimes I even get to see him at lunchtime.
I didn't know it was possible to be this happy. It makes me scared sometimes. I know how our fathers' first marriages ended, and although I know we'll never divorce, that doesn't mean that he can't die. That's my greatest fear, him leaving before me.
"Hmm, P'Pha." He mumbles as he scoots closer to me.
I love when he's cuddly like this. I scoot down and pull him into my arms. He sighs happily and snuggles into me. I simply lay here and brush my fingers through his hair. I want to go make him breakfast but this is so nice. It wouldn't hurt to lay down for a few more minutes.
"P'Pha. Wake up. I made breakfast." Yo is whispering into my ear.
I force open my eyes and curse. I was supposed to do that dammit. I sit up and smile at him. He looks so happy right now. I'll take care of breakfast another day.
He sets the tray on my lap then shuffles in beside me. We share the breakfast that he made and I have to admit it's pretty good. It took a while though. He wasn't joking when he said he couldn't cook. Some of the things he made where at best awful and at their worst inedible. He never gave up though and now he can make things like this: not burned toast with light jam, cubed melon, and perfect coffee.
Truthfully he's still awful and I rarely let him cook but he can manage this on his own. This and ramen. He can make a mean ramen.
After breakfast we get ready for work and head in. We talk about our schedules and upcoming plans. It's like this every day. I get to spend this time with my most precious person. I don't take a single second for granted, not when I know how my life was without him.
I walk him to his clinic and leave only after ten kisses, two hugs, and four more kisses. I smile as I leave and head back to the hospital.
It's a pretty normal day, just appointments and charts. I'm working on the chart from my last patient when I get a video call from my sweet Yo.
"Hey babe, you caught me at a good time. What can I do for you?" I ask.
"Would you like to have lunch with me today?" He asks.
"I would love to." I say happily.
"Great! What time?" He asks.
I quickly pull out my planner and scan it.
"One o'clock sound OK?" I ask looking at him.
"That's really late. Will you be alright until then?" He asks looking a bit concerned.
"I'll be fine. Sometimes I don't have lunch at all so..."
"WHAT!? You don't have lunch at all? Oh that ends now even if I have to come every day to feed you." He says with a serious expression.
"How did I not know this before? We've been married for a year now." He complains.
I can't help but smile at him as he expresses his concern for me.
"Thank you Yo." I say softly.
"For what?" He asks stopping his rant.
"For caring about me and making sure that I'm OK." I reply.
"You're my husband. That's my job. Do you want me to print out the job description for you?" He asks causing me to laugh out loud.
"No. I believe you." I respond.
