Chapter 15: Everyone has a pressure point; don't blow it.
Rose's point of view.
Things were going as per usual. We hoped every morning that when we stepped out of our tents we would find Josh and Ellie standing at the gas stove cooking breakfast, or as was discussed over supper last night, we wouldn't even mind if we caught them making out by a freshly lit fire. Just so long as they were there.
Nevertheless, just like the morning before and the one before that, they weren't there.
Well, I thought, it's not like they're going to magically find each other, and find our camp during the night and just act like it never happened.
For one, I bet they don't even travel at night and two, we don't even know if they've found each other yet or not, and they wouldn't come in and cook breakfast like normal or sit in front of a fire and make out; because knowing Ellie and how long we've been apart she would upturn every tent to find us all and hug us like she would never see us again.
I was sitting on a log by the fire as I felt hands pick me up and put me on someone's lap. I turned around to see Ty grinning at me mischievously.
"Hey, you know last night, how they were discussing Josh and Ellie, well I was thinking since it's still pretty dark out here and I think people will be getting up soon, that we should get their hopes up and make them smile. What do you think?"
"Well, I don't know, it might get them to smile for a few seconds until the notice it's not them, but hey, why not. Oh, what are we going to do, cook breakfast? Cause I really don't feel like it this morning and I've already eaten." I said.
"Yeah, I know, I saw you. No, I was thinking more along the lines of this." He pressed his lips softly to mine and pulled back. "So what do ya think? Do ya reckon it will work, or will they know it's us straight away?"
"Hmmm." I said scrunching up my face and tapping my chin with my finger pretending to think about it. "No." Was all I said.
"No? No what?" He asked.
"No I don't think that will work." I said my voice coming out strong.
"Why not?" He asked in confusion.
"Well think about it, they've just found us, and each other, what would you do if you'd just found me after I'd been lost in the bush for two weeks?" I asked. "Well, I think I'd say thank god first, then I'm not sure, cause I really don't ever want to think about that happening." He said.
"Well, I know what I'd do..." I grinned evilly.
"And what would that be my little angel?" He said leaning forward so that our foreheads were touching.
"This." I whispered so low I don't think he even heard it. I wrapped my arms super tight around his neck and captured his mouth with mine.
It wasn't a soft gentle kiss; it was hard and needy. Like we couldn't get enough of each other, like we had to make up for all the days, we hadn't kissed, in that one kiss.
I moved so my body was pressed against his, and felt his arms tighten around my waist. One hand was in my hair, the other resting on the top of my thigh.
We stayed like that for ages. I was glad no one came out of the tent at the start because then it wouldn't have been as good as it was.
However, after what felt like 20 minutes of passionate kissing we heard a tent zipper and then a very excited squeal coming from Carrie.
She ran full out sprint towards us only stopping when she was close enough to see that it wasn't whom she had thought it was.
She groaned and sank into one of the logs beside us around the fire.
"You guys!" She cried. "I thought it was them. That is so mean!" She was standing up now and full on screaming at us.
"WOW!" I yelled back. "Were allowed to do what we want, just because you assumed it was them just because you talked about it last night doesn't mean you can yell at us, jeeze!" Now I was standing up also, right in front of her. She backed down a bit after hearing this.
Nate and Bret came out of the tents running over to us holding their sides and gasping for air.
"What is this all about?" Bret managed to splutter out.
"I thought it was Ellie and Josh!" Carrie Wailed.
"Oh." Was all he said in return.
"OH, OH, ALL YOU CAN SAY IS OH!!!!!!!!" She was going slightly red and I could see the two weeks pressure of having Ellie and Josh gone had built up too much and she was letting all of it out now. Well better now than later.
"DON'T YELL AT ME CARRIE! WERE ALL UPSET ABOUT THEM BEING MISSING, DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN GO ALL HYSTERICAL AT US JUST BECAUSE THESE TWO DECIDE IT WOULD BE FUN TO DO THAT TO YOU!" He had turned on us halfway through
"WHAT THE HELL GUYS?" He yelled.
Now it was Ty's turn to start yelling. "DON'T WHAT THE HELL US, IT'S A FREE COUNTRY, WERE ALLOWED TO DO WHATEVER WE WANT, LIKE ROSE SAID TO CARRIE BEFORE, YOU GUYS CAME RUNNING, YOU JUMPED TO CONCLUSIONS BECAUSE OF LAST NIGHT. BESIDES, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT HAPPENED ANYWAY. YOU DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING BUT CARRIE SCREAMING AT US AND ROSE DEFENDING HERSELF." Wow, was all I thought.
We may as well all get it out now because it's not like we've got anything else to let it out on.
We don't have PE now to get our anger out, and there is nothing to yell into, or hit in the guys case.
By this time, everyone was standing around and everyone was yelling at someone.
I was standing there fuming because Rhys was yelling at me about making Carrie upset.
"WELL, LIKE I'VE SAID ABOUT TWENTY TIMES NOW. SHE. SHOULDN'T. HAVE. JUMPED. TO. CONCLUSIONS! IT'S. NOT. MY. FAULT. I JUST WANTED TO HAVE SOMETIME WITH MY BOYFRIEND, AND THEN THE NEXT THING I KNOW, I'M GETTING YELLED AT BECAUSE SHE JUMPED TO CONCLUSIONS! STOP YELLING AT ME ABOUT IT!" I pulled free of Ty's arms and ran as hard and fast as I could through the threes to the river.
I saw a rock that was sticking out over the river and climbed onto it. I lay on the warm surface and buried my face in my hands sobbing.
I didn't want this to happen, we were all getting torn apart by each other just because one little thing went wrong. This is so unfair.
We are all the best of friends, the closest group of friends back at school, and now just because we lost two people things get bad and people start blaming people, and now look where it's gotten us.
Carries crying her heart out back at camp while Ty was yelling at her and she was yelling back, I've run off because I keep getting blamed for it.
I mean, yeah, ok, maybe we had known they would think that, but jeeze, they didn't have to scream at me for it.
If we'd known they were going to react like that, I'm sure; Ty never would have even mentioned it.
