Chapter 16: Drowning desires

I was lying on the rock in the warm sun when I heard footsteps coming through the bush towards me.

I didn't respond thought, I just lay there on my back soaking up the sun and ignoring who ever it was I was sure had come to yell at me some more, maybe if they thought I was asleep then they would go away and leave me alone for a little bit longer.

I loved the fact that it was quiet and still, the only thing you could hear was the rustle of the leaves as the light breeze swept the branches from side to side gently and the water trickling along at a slow calming pace beneath me.

"Rose?" It was Ty. I didn't want to move, let alone talk, so I just stayed silent, hoping that he wouldn't keep asking me to talk.

To my relief he didn't walk away, but he didn't try to talk to me either.

He just lay down beside me and I felt him slide his arm over my stomach and pressing himself closer to my side.

I loved laying there feeling his arm around me, not wanting me to talk, but letting me lay there and listen to his breathing and the sounds of nature around me. We lay there for quite a long time before Ty took his arm from around me and used it to pull himself closer to the edge.

I opened my eyes squinting hard in the sun and watched him. He was leaning over the edge his arms dangling over the edge.

He seemed fascinated by whatever was under the rock. He pulled himself half way over the edge the top half of his body hanging over.

"What's down there?" I asked. It must have startled him because he fell over the edge and I heard a splash as he landed headfirst in the water.

He was lucky it had been warm these past few days and the sun was out, heating up the water.

"Jeeze. You scared the shit out of me!" He gasped after surfacing.

"Sorry?" I said guiltily making it sound more of a question.

"Oh, yeah, you'll be sorry." He said as I saw two pairs of hands grip the rock and pull him up. He sat on the edge and beckoned me to come closer.

I didn't want to move, he was wet, and he might push me in.

"I just want a hug." He said pouting and giving me puppy dog eyes.

"Hmmm, sure." I said crossing my arms over my chest and squinting my eyes at him.

"I do, I promise." He pleaded.

I looked at him disbelievingly for a second before asking, "Pinky promise?"

"Pinky promise." He stated. "But you have to come over here to do the pinky promise."

I wiggled over to him carefully. I put my hand in his and my pinky entwined around his.

Then the next thing I know, I'm falling over the edge with Ty right beside me.

Yep, I was so sure he would do that. When I surfaced, I shook the water off my face and reached out for Ty.

Panicking when I couldn't reach him, I couldn't touch the bottom, and I didn't know how to swim.

I called out to him and he must have heard the distress in my voice because he came over and wrapped me in his arms holding me tightly so I wouldn't go under the water. Then I realized he wasn't wearing a shirt.

"Where's your shirt?" I asked.

"Oh, it was annoying me because it was wet so I took it off, along with my shoes and socks."

"Oh. I should probably take mine off too." I said. Then saw the amused look on his face and thought back to what I had said.

"Oh, No, I didn't mean my shirt, I meant my shoes and socks!"

"Oh, right, yeah, sure you did." He said.

"I did mean my shoes and socks. But I guess it wouldn't matter because I put on two tops this morning." I said.

He let go of me and ducked under the water, a few seconds later I felt him taking off my shoes and socks.

While he was taking them off, I pulled off my heavy shirt.

I had a warmer t-shirt on under it so it didn't matter when he came back up to put my shoes and socks of the ledge.

"There now they can dry a bit." He said looking at the shirt, I was putting on the ledge as well then turning to see I still had a top on.

I smiled at him and he smiled back. His hundred-watt smile. His arms encircled my waist again holding me close to his chest.

He dipped his head down and caught my lips with his. It was amazing as always, his kisses never grow old, and they never will.

You know in the movies where they kiss in the rain. Well this felt just like it, the water was all around me and I felt so safe in his arms holding me up.

I'd wrapped my legs around him to make it easier for him to hold me.

His hair was wet and as I ran my hand through it, I felt little droplets flick from his hair onto my face. It was nice to think I was in the river.

I hadn't been sure that it would be safe, there could have been sharp rocks, or the water could have been too deep for him, or it could have been very shallow and he could have hit his head, or it could have been freezing.

However, I needn't worry, because here we were kissing in the river without a single scratch, bruise or bump and the water seemed the perfect level for him.
