Marcus opens with the speech on the factions.
"Those who blamed aggression formed Amity-those who blamed selfishness formed Abnegation and those who blamed lies formed Candor-those who blamed ignorance formed Erudite and those who blamed cowardice formed Dauntless."he says,humble
I sit through names like Cynthia,Amity or Daren,Candor.
But after the dozens of names,I'm called.
"Katniss Everdeen."Marcus says
I walk up to the stage,as I take the knife and slide it across the palm of my hand as I stare at Prim. The sweet smile across her face,saying to choose what I want to choose.
But what if it isn't right?
Than I'm stunned.
"Katniss Everdeen-Dauntless."Marcus announces
And I notice Prim,she mouthed the words "It's okay,I love you" as Clove grabs my shoulder and we run outside.
I blend in quite well with the Dauntless. I almost can be one of them. I have never felt so free in my life,as I jump onto the train. I sit next to a girl,she's clearly Candor as she smiles at me.
"I'm Christina."she says
"Katniss."I said
"Katniss isn't a name,it's a plant."says an Erudite boy
"I'm Will."he says
"That isn't a name,it's a piece of paper."I retort
Christina chuckles.
"This one has spunk!"laughs Clove
"Hey Clove."I said
"Hey Catnip,we're about to jump."she says
I see a seventy foot drop off a building. I leaned my head back. As Clove yanked my arm and the three of us,Christina,Clove and I-jumped off. Landing on the rocks of the building.
But there's one person who didn't make it. A girl who I believe her name was Rita or was it her sister?but then a man greeted us,he had so many piercings that I can't count.
"Welcome to Dauntless,I'm Eric,you chose us,now we choose you."he says
He looks at me,or in my direction.
"Anyone volunteers to jump first."he says
"I volunteer."I said
"And what's your name?"he asks me
"Katniss Everdeen."I said,taking my robe off
I tie it around my waist as I jump off the building,I close my eyes and spread my arms like a bird. Than I hit the net. I notice Four,who helps me out.
"Name?"he asks me
"Katniss."I said
"First jumper,Katniss."he announces
My feet hit the floor,but I wobble a little.
"Nice to see you again,welcome to Dauntless."he says
"Thanks,Four."I grinned
I stand aside and as I watch people,hit the net one by one. Christina and Will congratulate me for being the first to jump when really I can never be more terrified.
Later,we were given our black clothing. I let my hair down,as Christina hands me a black dress.
"It's saying wear me,Katniss!"she laughs
"Fine."I laugh
I slip it on and look into the mirror,I look fierce and almost Dauntless. I braid my hair on the side,as I slip on my shoes and we walk into the cafeteria,there's hollers of laughter and congratulations being thrown around. I look around and I sit with Will and Christina,than I meet Al,Drew,Molly,Edward and Myra. Along with the same Candor boy Peter.
"So Katniss,what made you join Dauntless?"Al asks me
"Well it was really an accident,I wanted to stay in Abnegation with my sister,Prim."I said
"Your lying."Al says
"It's true,since my dad died,Prim is nervous when I'm not around,and so far,she's probably freaking out."I sighed
"Well you can see her on Visiting Day."Myra assures
"Yeah."I sighed
"What's Prim like?"Christina asks me
"She's the more selfless than I am,she helps the Factionless,volunteers at the hospital-she wants to work there some day and she's as lovely as the Primrose flower."I said
Thinking about her made me want to break down and sob but this was Prim.
"She sounds like the best little sister."Christina says
"Well I guess she's selfish too."Peter says
"Excuse me?"I ask him
"You heard me,Stiff."Peter says
"I am not a stiff anymore,and you don't have a right to talk about my home like that."I said
"Well yo-"he stops as another Dauntless leader came in. "Welcome Initiates,to your new home. And now we choose you. And remember that we take Faction before blood seriously around here."he says
A blond boy,walks over,he has the brightest baby blue eyes.
"Who are you?"asks Al
"Peeta Mellark,I transferred from Amity."he says
"Well Peeta,this is Katniss,Christina,Will,Myra,Edward and Drew,and Molly. I'm Al and over here is Peter."Al says
Peeta's eyes are on me,I can see that,but I look away to talk to Christina and Myra.
After that,I held my grey clothes in my hands,thinking of Prim,my mom and Beatrice. Hopefully I'll see them on Visiting Day. I tossed them into the fire as I kept my father's necklace in my hands.
I changed for bed as I took my hair out it's braid,and I dreamt of my family before it was broken,and my friends.
And I slept easily.
