Maybe I'm not Dauntless,maybe I don't belong here. I sat up in my bed and got changed for the day as I look at the bird on my father's necklace,I believe he said it was a mockingjay a mix of a mockingbird and another one that I cannot remember.
I braid my hair as I come down for breakfast.
"Hey Catnip!"smiles Clove
"Hi."I said
"Cato!This is Catnip."she says
A boy with tousled blonde hair and green eyes smiles at me.
"It's Katniss."I correct Clove
"Nice to meet you Katniss."he smirks
"Nice to meet you,Cato."I said
I hurry for breakfast,as I sit down with Christina and Will,Al and Peeta.
"Dauntless initiates love you."Christina laughs
I shrug it off.
"Hey does anyone know what we're doing today?"I ask him
"Introductions."Peeta says
"Oh."I sighed
I notice Four,he looks at me for a quick second and then looks away.
"Katniss,want some bread?"Peeta asks me
"Sure."I said
He hands me a roll,and it smells amazing. The scent is intoxicating.
"Oh my God,it's amazing."I laugh
Christina laughs.
"Abnegation don't eat real food."Will says
"Exactly."I said
"Initiates!"yells Four
I turn my attention.
"Follow me."he says
We follow him to what I believe is called the Chasm.
"The Chasm reminds us that there is a fine line between bravery and idiocy. One of you is going to jump into it,it always happen. Every year."he says
I look at the roaring waters below,it's a long drop. I would never jump because I don't want to leave Prim nor do I want to scar her that much.
We already lost our parents,our father physically and our mother mentally.
We follow him into what looks like a training room.
"This is where your training for the physical part of your initiation."he says
He looks around.
"Your in here for thirty minutes to train."he says
And we're given time to practice on our own. That's when Four pulls me aside.
"Do you realize how stupid you are?"he asks me
"What do you mean?"I ask him
"Choosing Dauntless,with your aptitude results?They will find out who you are and they will not hesitate to kill you."he whispers
I cross my arms across my chest.
"Katniss I don't think your understanding the threat here."he says
"I do,and I'm trying to ignore it."I said
I walk away from him,as I start practicing with Christina.
"Why did Four wanna talk to you?"she asks me
"I don't wanna talk about it."I said
"I think Peeta has a thing for you."she says
"Well I'm not sure how to feel about that."I said
"Katniss-you're like pretty beautiful since your from Abnegation. And I'm surprised there's not like a ton of guys fighting themselves over you."she says
"Because I'm not something worth fighting for."I said
I block her punch as I do notice Peeta's eyes on me,but I look away and keep practicing. Afterwards,we were given some free time. And I so happen to notice Cato,he walks over.
"Hey Catnip."he smirks
"Cato."I grinned
"Clove wants to know if you wanna hang out with us."He says
I thought of it,having fun with other people.
"I don't see why not."I shrugged
I follow them up to the top of the building. As the zip line reached the John Hancock building.
"Catnip,meet our lovely Uriah."Cato says
Uriah looks at me.
"Catnip?"he asks me
"It's Katniss."I laughed
"Well Catnip,I'm Uriah."he smirks
Cato grabs me.
"Hey she's my girl!"he laughs
Clove laughs.
"Boys will be boys."she says
Another boy,who I learned was Zeke. Set me up on the zip line.
"Ready to wuss out,Catnip?"Clove chuckles
"No,Go."I said
And soon I'm a bird,my arms spread out like wings as I look at the sky,it was all so perfect. It could never end.
