'Shields?'
'Check.'

'Supplies?'
'Check.'

'Weapons, including-'
'Check. Relax bro, we've got everything that we need.' The humanoid slime grinned, shouldering the satchel that held any necessities for the mission at hand. His partner - a sentient robot commonly known as "Nooch" - nodded his head in agreement, patting the freshly-made iron sword at his side as if trying to ease his friend.
'We'll be fine, we're gonna be back in a week anyway.'

'Yeah, but still...'
'Dude, you're worrying over nothing. We'll be in and out within a few days, alright? Besides, we're the only two who can do this. None of us want you to get set on fire or anything, especially with all your fur.'

A fluffy creature whined at this, but nodded anyway,  his two friends still trying to convince him that he'd be okay as they walked for the caves.
'It's not like we'll be gone for months, buddy, just seven days. We could be back earlier if we find enough glowstone.' The robot (Sometimes, known as Mat, too) continued, not realizing that their friend was only half-listening. Brandon on the other hand fell into step with the bacca hybrid, patting his back reassuringly as they looked ahead.
'Seriously Jerome, it'll be okay. We'll be back before you can say raw fish.'
...
...
...
'You guys never did come back.'

A lone bacca hybrid sat under the shade of a twisting oak tree. In the distance, he could hear a bird calling to it's mate, and right in front of him was a large, fast-flowing river.
It would have been peaceful, and it was, before the explosion, large splash and call for help.

Bewildered, Jerome Aceti jumped up and looked around for the source. It had been from the river, obviously, but what had made it?
That was answered quickly, as a moment later he saw the flailing figure being dragged by the current. Whoever it was was right in the middle of the river, and they weren't going to stop anytime soon.
'Help!'
Think Jerome, think, what can you - Oh wait. Two strong vines burst from the ground just before the figure passed by, both gripping them by the wait and hoisting them into the air.

That worked better than expected.
The vines shifted, lowering the river's victim safely onto the ground as they stumbled into a tree. Oh dear.
'Uh, are you okay?'
They looked around, almost holding onto the tree for support as wary caramel eyes met the bacca's own grey orbs. He could now see that it was a male, possibly around his age, and had his hair been dry it would probably have been a light brown.
They attempted to draw a sword, fumbling with the almost-broken blade until some kind of leg injury made them fall.
'Woah dude, calm down, I'm not gonna hurt you.' Jerome assured, with the brunet just trying to hold the sword once more. This time, a nearby branch fell from a tree and fell onto the blade.
Causing it to shatter entirely.
Huh.

Must be a pureblood.
'Not much of a talker, huh?'
He just continued to stare at the prodigy, opening his mouth to say something before beginning to cough up an alarming amount of water. 'Ah, shoot. Try to sit up properly, alright?'
'Don't - hurt me.'
'I'm not going to. Try to get all of the water out, okay?'
'You... Fluffy.'

Jerome snorted good-naturedly, shaking his fur for emphasis as the brunet grinned weakly. 'Furball.'
'Such original content right there. C'mon, focus on breathing and make fun of my fur later.'
'Not making fun, just- Facts.'
'Uh-huh, sure. D'you mind telling me why you were in the river?'

Apparently getting the majority of water out of his lungs, he shrugged before tensing and moving a hand to his upper arm. 'Supercharged creeper got the sneakup on me. Thanks for getting me out if the river.'
'No problem. What're you doing so far out in the forest? It's dangerous.'
'...I ran away from my village. Not going into much detail, but yeah.' The tone of his voice warned Jerome away from asking any more questions like that, and he nodded subtly. 'Right. Sorry.'
'It's okay. Oh- my name's Mitch. Mitchell Hughes, but just Mitch is fine.'
'Alright, Just Mitch.'
'Oi! Fluffy.'

'Yo Mitch, where's my axe?'
'Your what?'
'My axe.'
'What?'
'Y'know, the axe you got me for my birthday last year.'
'Oh, I- Uh, I put it away.'
'Where?'
'Why do you need to know.'
'I need it!'
'...No you don't.'

The bacca hybrid gave a frustrated sigh at his friend's "antics", holding up a pair of golden dogtags and spinning them around his finger. 'I have your dogtags.'
'You WHAT?! I've been looking for those since last week!'
'Yeah, well, I found them, now give me my axe.'
'...I can't really do that. It's not really the same axe anymore.'
'Did you break it?'

There was a moment of silence, followed by a loud crash and frustrated cursing. Jerome rolled his eyes but walked into the room the noise had come from, only to see his best friend of three years stuck under the table.
'Help.'
'I mean, I would, but I could also wait until you tell me where my axe is.' He smirked. Yes, Mitch was literally stuck under the collapsed furniture, but he would be fine.

'Ugh... I got it upgraded. Three year anniversary of friendship and all that, now can you please get the table off of me?!'
'Oh. Oh wow. Uh, okay then, just let me-'

It took about the next ten minutes to get the table off. Mostly because it was stuck under the anvil (for some reason) and he didn't want to hurt his friend either.
'Why we you under the table, anyway?'
'Uh, no reason.' Jerome could practically hear the nervousness, and frowned slightly. 'Hey. You can tell me.'
'But then the surprise'll be ruined!'

'Wait. Were you literally going to throw a party for this thing?'
The Candalian looked down, almost hesitant to reply before nodding slightly. 'You saved my life that day. I'll never be able to repay you for that.'
'You've put up with me for all this time, I think that's payment enough... But if you really wanted to celebrate, we could go get some cake from the village.'
'Aw hell yeah.'
