hoseok's pov
i worked myself to the brink of death in order to get back to jimin. i balanced a total of 4 jobs weekly, alongside with multiple part time jobs. with little to no sleep each day, i forced myself onto a strict budget for my essentials. but it was all worth it. i managed to purchase a third class ticket back to daegu. back to jimin. i weakly made my way through the hectic airport crowds and security. once i was sat on the airplane seat, i suddenly realized how hard it was to breathe. i took in deep breaths, but it became more difficult. i felt light headed, slowly my eyes began to droop. the last thing i saw was the outside city through the small airplane window.
—
i heard the echoing of voices through my head. i could barely breathe. i felt nearly dead. opening my eyes as slowly as possible, i was met with a bright light. looking down upon me was an unfamiliar face.
"where am i?"
the man's eyes widened.
"you're awake?"
"where am i?"
"oh, uh you're at daegu's
international hospital.""n—no. i have to go to
the central hospital!""i'm sorry, sir. you are in
critical condition.
if we were to transfer you,
your chance of survival
would be considerably low —"damn it.
—
the doctor almost never left the room. apparently, i had to be kept under 24 hour surveillance.
a female doctor glanced through the door, motioning the man to come out. he nodded, going to the landline that was placed next to me.
"i need a doctor in room 203."
here's my chance. once the doctor left the room, i pulled out all the needles and machines attached to me, as well as the respirator mask on my face. almost immediately, i had to put a great amount of effort into breathing properly. i stumbled across the room and weakly pushed open the door. luckily, there was no one around.
i reached down my pocket and felt my phone at the ends of my fingertips. there was no way i could have walked there, considering my condition. therefore, i called an uber.
—
i must've passed out in the car again. because here i am, back at a hospital. i squinted my eyes once again, attempting to regain my vision. it was significantly harder. i could hardly breathe. im hanging on my last string. i heard a woman crying from besides me.
"where am i?"
i weakly uttered out."hoseok, don't talk!
you're dying.
save your energy."amber.
that means im at the central hospital.
with jimin."thank god."
"stop talking! please hoseok."
i chuckled slightly.
"i never thought
this would happen.""how could you let your
cancer get worse!
you were doing so well."i didn't really think about how i would be affected by my working habits. i should've been more careful.
"how long do i have left?"
"they s—say not more
than 24 hours.""is my heart still okay?"
"yeah— but it may not last long
because of your lungs.
why would you ask that?""do you have organ
donor papers here?""hoseok, don't tell me—"
"get it for me please."
—
in the last moments of my life, i spent it signing documents that allow me to give up my heart to the person who needs it most. i spent it writing down a note to the person i love. and you know exactly who that is.
