AS CASSIE STARED OUT her bedroom window, she noticed a the flashing lights of the search team standing in her backyard, yelling "Will Byers!" over and over as if he would pop out behind a tree or something. Cassie couldn't help but remember the last time she saw Will on the ride home. How brightly he smiled at her, and how she smiled back.

"God, they need to shut the hell up," cursed Steve, walking into Cassie's room, looking out the window beside her.

"A kid went missing, Steve," informed Cassie. "What else would you expect them to do?"

"That's not my problem," Steve defended, looking down at his little sister. "It's not like he's hanging out in the woods. He probably ran away."

"Yeah, that's what I'm thinking," said Cassie. "But, I don't have a good feeling about this. Like, what if Will Byers is really in trouble? What if he's dead?"

"Then he's dead," said Steve, shrugging. "It's depressing, but, that family is messed up."

"I guess," replied Cassie, her body unwillingly starting to shake from nerves.

"Hey," said Steve, looking back at his little sister. "Are you alright? You seem a little tense."

Cassie looked up at her brother for what seemed like the first time, "Did you hear anything that happened the night Will went missing?"

"No," Steve said simply. "Why?"

Cassie looked back out of her bedroom window, "I was with him. The night he went missing."

"You were what?" Steve said, his eyebrows furrowing as he sat down next to his sister.

"We were riding our bikes home from the Wheeler's and that was the last time I saw him," said Cassie, her hands shaking frantically now.

"Wait," said Steve, sitting down next to his sister. "You were at the Wheelers? What did you do there? Did you talk to Nancy at all?"

Cassie looked at her brother, anger rising in her, "Is that all you care about? I just told you about Will and how I was with him just before he went missing and all you're thinking about is Nancy. You're unbelievable."

"Jesus," relented Steve. "Calm down, I'm sorry."

"You know," said Cassie, laughing and looking up at the ceiling. "For a second—just for a second—I thought you actually cared. Little did I know you're still the same douchebag brother that doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself."

Before Steve could reply, Cassie bolted out of her room, and raced down the stairs, forgetting to throw on a jacket before storming out of the house. Furiously, she climbed onto her bike and rode to the first place that popped into her mind: Mirkwood.
