Namjoon entered the house with the spare key he had received just a couple of weeks earlier. "Joonie!" A chorus of voices exclaimed as he closed the door behind him. He was barely able to move forward into the house as three small bodies launched themselves at his legs.
He looked down to see Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook looking up at him while giggling. "Well, hello there~" They laughed harder as he maneuvered his way into the kitchen with them still holding on to him. "I believe I've been taken prisoner," was how he announced his arrival to Jin, who was busy cooking dinner with the help of Yoongi and Hoseok.
Jin turned around and laughed. "Alright, you three, are your toys picked up?" The twins (a nickname that came about a few weeks ago when Taehyung and Jimin decided to do everything exactly the same, down to wearing the exact same outfits) shook their heads 'no' and detached themselves from the social worker. However, Jungkook stayed where he was, hugging Namjoon's leg as if his life depended on it. "I tried," Jin giggled before greeting Namjoon with a soft kiss, which of course earned a chorus of giggles from Yoongi and Hoseok as they watched. The sound of scratching at the backdoor is what caused Jin to pull away. "Can you let Holly and Mickey in?" Namjoon nodded and made his way to the door on the other side of the kitchen with Jungkook as Jin turned back to the stove to finish dinner. Holly and Mickey were the two newest members of the family after Jin had asked Yoongi and Hoseok what they wanted as an adoption gift. The seven and six-year olds obviously wanted puppies. Jin originally rejected the idea until Namjoon lovingly reminded him 'you did say you would get them anything', so over spring break, Jin took the boys to the local shelter to pick out a dog, coming home with two because the two boys couldn't come to an agreement on just one.
When Namjoon opened the door for the two dogs, they both ran straight for their owners, causing Jin to lose his helpers as they dropped everything to play with the adorable animals. Jin barely noticed though, as he was too busy swaying to the upbeat music he had playing from his phone. Knowing that dancing was something Jin only did when he was in a really good mood, Namjoon approached his boyfriend and wrapped his arms around his waist from behind, resting his head on the slightly shorter male's shoulder. "What's got you in such a good mood?"
"Sarah called just before you got here and I'm going tomorrow to sign the adoption papers for Jimin and Jungkook." Jin said nonchalantly, although Namjoon could tell that he was bursting with excitement.
"That's great!" Namjoon said, pressing a kiss to Jin's cheek as he reached out to grab the pepper shaker.
"Yeah..." Jin sighed, "I just wish I could know if it'll happen with Taehyung one day, what's up with his dad? Sarah said he has another hearing coming up this fall."
"If he's still the same as when I was on the case," Namjoon started, rubbing circles on the skin right above the waistband of Jin's jeans with his thumb as he spoke, "then it's probably that he'll be doing good, sticking to his checklist and being on his way to be able to have Taehyung placed back with him, but under protective services, and then he'll relapse, get drunk again, possibly lose his job, and have to start all over." Namjoon let out a sigh. "It's sad."
"It is." Jin agreed, the upbeat mood from earlier nearly gone. "The longer it takes, the less Taehyung wants to be with him. I saw it just last week when I was getting him ready for a visit, he looked like his father was the last person on Earth he'd ever want to see."
Namjoon pulled his head up to kiss the back of Jin's head. "It's been nearly two years. It's terrible, but it's what happens." He lightly squeezed Jin's side. "Cheer up, everything will be okay." Jin turned his head slightly and nodded while giving Namjoon a small smile. Namjoon responded by giving him another kiss on the cheek. "I'll go make sure the boys are ready for dinner."
