This is an idea from when I first started writing, but i just loved the song so much so i thought i'd wait until my writing got a little better because i didn't want to totally butcher what i had in mind, but enjoy the next couple of chapters.

The word was out. Everybody now knew of the darkness that was rooted so securely through Valkyrie Cain. She thought people would hate her, try to kill her or put her in a cell. But that wasn't the case.

Darquesse intrigued the hell out of people.

Some even started to worship her.

And as such, Valkyrie never got a moment of privacy, cameras always flashing in her eyes, people always asking questions in her ears.

And she was sick of it. Righteously so, as she always had to keep up the appearance of that tall, confident person who didn't have to worry about who she pissed off. Because why would she need to be scared, when she could become so powerful? People were always watching, always there to see if she would slip up, show anything other than the unforgiving god she was destined to become.

So she stalked through the Sanctuary, she gave them what they wanted to see, wanted to hear. A part of her wondered if being this way would stop Darquesse from coming out in the end anyway. If she was all those things by herself, Darquesse wouldn't need a reason to be, would she?

Her phone pinged in her pocket.

"Who's that?" Skulduggery asked. She shrugged, checked it.

"Ah," She murmured.

"What?" Skulduggery questioned again.

She typed a quick reply, "Some old man wants me to meet him in America."

She put her phone away, turning to look at Skulduggery who was staring at her. "What?" She asked, frowning.

"'Some old man wants me to meet him in America.'" He repeated.

She raised her eyebrows at him. "Yeah, and?"

"And maybe you should go."

She scrunched her nose, looking out the window of the Bentley. "Nah."

What was this guy gonna do anyway? Probably the same as everyone else. Try to control her, maybe try to manipulate her.

But she'd taken control of her name before it got out.

People still tried.

"Valkyrie," Skulduggery started but she cut him off.

"No, Skulduggery. I'm not going, I'm staying here. Where I belong. I'm not some circus animal for people to just ship around the world and coo at me. Ooo, look at the pretty little god, look at the hopeless little girl. I'm sick of it." She could feel him looking at her. She knew he was only trying to help, that's all he was ever doing; looking for ways to make her feel better about this whole situation. But she'd walled everything up, and it would take more than him to break them down.

At least without her fighting back and then destroying their friendship all together.

So, it was best that she isolate herself, let everyone paint the picture. Soon, she was colder than China, a raven-haired queen, who's brutality swept the world, bring it to its knees.

Little did the world know, being on its knees already just made it an easier target.
