Everything is broken. After the great destruction... Everything. Is. Broken.
••••••••
The rays of shimmering light bursts through the windows in my ragged room and i groan in annoyance as the faint sound of metal clanking together fills my ears. "Fathers working again." I sigh and groggily remove myself from the comfort of my patch-work duvet.
The clock to my right on my sun washed and ragged bedside cabinet had ceased to tick. It was the fourth time this week.
The clanking i heard before stops and my sleep-deprived father walks through the chipped and blood soaked door.
The great destruction, as we call the last war that ever happened, left the world in rubble and shambles and some places even radioactive. My family, The Evermore's, managed to rebuild our house from the rubble that we now call a city.
"Ah, daughter, have fun on your daily trip and make sure to pick up some metal scraps from the trading village." My father asked me and with a nod i grab my bag filled with foil wrapped sandwiches, water bottles and spare clothing.•••••••
I exit the house making sure that the latch is securely closed and taking the rubber bands from my wrist, i put my greasy brown hair up high in pig tails. There are no showers anymore, nor is there electricity so we have to rely on rivers and lakes and natural plants as bathing equipment.
Walking through the gravel and dirt road of my village, i smile and wave at passers by.
The housing here crumbles sometimes, so we have to be careful and stick to the middle of the path where the chunks of housing doesn't fall.
My friend, Nuada, comes bounding up to me.
"Eli!" He exclaims "on another trip for your dad i suppose?" He bares a grin.
"I grumble "stop Calling me Eli. My name is Ellianna you know this.. but yes, I'm on another trip for my father."
He nods and runs a hand through his spiky blonde hair.
"Righty-O! Ill tag along with you this time as i like to venture around with you."
I simply nod in reply and as we reach the end of the tiny rubble village.
"Get in then." I state as we sit into the rusty re-built mine cart as the side of the dock. Unlike with boats, we don't sail across in mine carts we use the old mine tacks found within the ground of city.
The tracks stretch for miles across what seems like a never ending sea , however the ride only lasts around fifteen minutes at full speed.
I study the cogs on the strange contraption that powers the conveyer belt-like metal mine tacks before signaling to the men controlling it that we were ready to go.
"Ive never been on these.." Nuada chuckles nervously and itches his chin,
The cart shakes ands with a push of a button, we are propelled forwards and into the supposedly never-ending sea.
