Forgotten Dusk

I awake, feeling startled. I heard something, but I can't figure out what. I toss and turn for a few minutes and then decide to get up. I dress quickly in a pair of black pants and a red blouse and walk to my window. The sky is clouded and it looks like it will rain, so I decided to go have some fun. I climb down the tree that grows outside of my window and into Clara's.

Clara is tall with short, blonde hair and honey-colored eyes that make people wonder how we're first cousins. I'm short like Mother with long, curly, black hair and bronze eyes from Father. My blood, my fire, and my lightening are all red.

Clara is quick to wake and dress. She grabs my arm and teleports us outside of the mansion it takes to house my family. I smile at the thrilling feeling that used to make me sick. We "jump" to the field next door. Our neighbors are Evangeline Samos and Elane Haven, but Evangeline's brother, Ptolemous, and his wife, Wren, are visiting. I light up the sky in a thrilling bolt of red lightening. Rain begins to fall, but it doesn't bother us. A few bolts of purple flash above us.

Great.

I suddenly realized that Mother probably woke me up screaming from one of her nightmares. I don't understand how she can have nightmares this long after the death of my uncle. Everyone says he was a monster, but Mother and Father remember someone that they claim to have both loved. They say it was a lie, but I can see in their eyes that they don't truly believe that.

Evangeline storms out of the door to her home. "What are you doing? It is 2:00 in the morning! Don't you understand quiet and darkness?" She rants for about five minutes. I see my parents walking across the field. "Time to go," I say grabbing Clara's wrist .

We jump back to my room and run into Tyton, of all people, in the hall. Technically he's my uncle, but we all call everyone by their names here. "What are you doing awake at 2:00?" he asks us. Clara just smiles and says, "Having fun." I roll my eyes. "That means getting on Evangeline's nerves," I say. Surprisingly, he laughs. I catch Clara's surprised gaze.

"Your mother used to do that," he tells me with another laugh. I look around. I don't see Gisa or Shade, their son.

"Where is everyone? Usually when I start a storm, everyone is up by now," I remark

"Your parents are most likely looking for you both, so I suggest you stay here and wait until they get home. I thing everyone else is sleeping"

We decide to hide in the basement instead. "I'm going to the Lakelands," Clara says so quietly that I wonder if I heard her right. "Do you want to come? I mean the Silvers there still think of Reds as slaves, so I'm going to join the Scarlet Guard. It still operates there. My goal is to kidnap Princess Iris. "

I smile. "Try and stop me."

A/n What does everyone think? I'm all up for constructive criticism. Longer chapter this time. :)
