Mare
I flinch at Evangeline's words, but she doesn't notice. Her eyes are drawn to the cloudless sky. Finally, I whisper, "I really don't know." She looks at me then, panic burning in her charcoal gaze. "Farley has plans, but none that I can fully participate in at the moment. The media knows, so the country should be aware by now, but there is no one to lead at this point. I'm not sure what Farley has planed for the election, but I'm sure we'll find out soon," I tell her.
"Why are the raiders even back? They were gone for almost two years, and then they came back. I'm afraid there's more to these attacks than meets the eye." She's right.
"What about Iris and the Lakelander forces? Do you think they're behind this?"
Evangeline looks truly surprised by this question, her eyebrows shooting up and her lips forming a perfect o. She then begins to pace, back and forth for several minutes, mumbling something under her breath every few seconds. Finally she meets my gaze. "Someone has to stop them. This attack was orchestrated perfectly, with the intent to assassinate Davidson, and leave the media distracted. They'll be attacking full force soon, with so little attention on the borders or the military status. We can't let this keep us from thinking straight." All trace of fear has been wiped from her face, replaced with determination. "Where's Farley?"

To her credit, Farley masked her surprise well, but I see past her mask with no difficulty. Maven has taught me nothing if not that. She contacts the military general immediately, asking a million questions about the military status and the position of the Lakelander forces and then if the border guards have seen anything out of the ordinary.
When she finishes the interrogation, Evangeline and I have collapsed on a couch nearby, listening but not terribly noticeable. Farley sits next to us and sighs. Tears begin to fall down her face, dripping onto the couch. I can't remember a time that I've seen Farley cry. "I thought the war was over. I thought we had protected our families and children. I don't want to be fighting for my life anymore." She says the last part in a whisper. I understand though. She lost her love to this war, and I miss Shade more than even Maven, if that's possible.
I think all my tears have dried up. I feel as if a river could fall down my cheeks, but they don't come. Instead, I steady my ragged breathing, and ask her what she wants me to do. She says nothing for several long moments, and then looks me in the eye. The scar on her face catches my attention for a moment, but her words take my attention off it in only a fraction of a second.
"I will run for premier, like you have suggested before, but you have to promise to help me. Evangeline will help too, since she has experience in the field, that is if she'll agree, but I can't do this alone."
"Cal can help too," I offer, and she nods.
"Gather the other electricons. Each of the four of you will be over certain groups of soldiers, along with Evangeline and Cal, if they agree. It's time to finish what we started."

So, it's been forever, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to finish this after Broken Throne came out. I'll definitely try, but I'm not making any promises. And the song I put up there made me thing of Mare's relationship with Maven, so I put it in.
