Melea opens the postcard that arrived in the mail and smiles at the colorful writing and design that read "You are cordially invited to attend (Y/S/N) and (Y/S/F/N) on (Random date) at (Random location)."

Melea sighs at the thought of attending her sister's wedding. It's no secret that they do not have the best relationship. (Y/S/N) was always their parents' favorite and was considered to be the better daughter. She hears her phone ring and automatically sees it's from her sister.

"Hi (Y/S/N)," Melea answers, not entirely thrilled to hear from her sister.

"Hi Melea. Did you receive the invitation in the mail?" her sister asks.

"Yeah, it just arrived right now," Melea responds.

"Just so you know, you can bring a plus one, though I doubt you will,"  her sister replies, causing Melea to frown.

"What's that supposed to mean?" she replies sourly.

"Don't get offended, Melea. It's just you've been single for like ages," her sister replies, trying to not offend her sister.

"Too late. I can't believe you think I wouldn't be able to bring a date. Are you trying to say it's not feasible for me to be in a relationship? Wow, thanks for believing in me," she bites back, sarcasm dripping from her voice.

"Don't take it like that, Melea! Jesus, I never said that you'll never be in a relationship. I just said I don't think you'll be in a relationship by the time of the wedding," her sister replies, growing frustrated with Melea.

"Alright, (Y/S/N). I gotta go. I'll talk to you later," she replies, before hanging up right away.

She immediately dials a familiar number without even thinking.

"Melea, what's up?" her best friend, Whit, answers after a few seconds.

"Whit, would you mind doing me a huge favor?" she asks, in a sickly sweet voice.

"For you? Anything," he replies, eliciting a giggle from her.

"Do you mind being my date/fake boyfriend for my sister's wedding on (Random date)?" she asks him.

"Are you sure it's a great idea to lie to your sister and family?" he asks.

"Whit, (Y/S/N) thinks that I'll probably never be in a relationship and gives me shit for it all the time. I'm sure my parents feel the exact same way. I want my parents to for once, not feel like I'm a disappointment to the family name. I also wanna stick it to my sister more than anything else. I just need you to pretend for this one day and then I'll tell my parents we broke up and decided we were better off as friends," she explains.

"Alright I'll do it. We'll come up with a story so that we're on the same page when people ask about we got together at the wedding," he replies.

"You're the best, Whit!" she squeals.

Months go by with the preparations for the wedding and before she knows it, the day of wedding has arrived. Whit shows up at her place to pick her up dressed in a gorgeous royal blue suit.

"Wow, of course you would wear a royal blue suit to my sister's wedding," she scoffs, rolling her eyes.

"What can I say? Royal blue looks good on me," he replies.

"Whatever you say, Whit. Let's just get this show on the road," she giggles, lifting up the end of her orange gown.

They leave her place and get into his car to head to the venue. The ride to the venue is spent listening to top 40 music and practicing the story of their fake relationship. They arrive to the venue after half an hour and enter the building. They make their way to their assigned seat and greet her parents.

"Melea, it's so great to see you and Whit together," her mother smiles.

"Thank you, Mom," she smiles.

"I hope you're treating my daughter right," her father says to Whit.

"Of course, Mr. (Y/L/N)! I love her too much to hurt her," he replies, his hand around her waist possessively.

Before they know it, the ceremony begins and (Y/S/N) is officially married to (Y/S/F/N). They move to the reception hall.

Melea's sister approaches Melea and is shocked to see her with Whit.

"You and Whit are dating?" she asks Melea, as they sit down at the head table.

"Yes, we have for a while now," Whit lies, kissing Melea's cheek.

"Why didn't you tell me?" her sister asks, lifting an eyebrow.

"I wanted it to be a surprise," Melea replies, smiling at her sister's shock.

Melea's sister and her new husband do their first dance together before dancing with her father. Then all the couples go on the dance floor for the couples dance. The song Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran comes on and Melea wraps her arms around Whit's neck. Whit wraps his arms around her waist and pulls her close for the slow dance.

"I love this song," she smiles, humming along to the song.

"I know you do," he replies, causing her to roll her eyes in response.

"Thank you for agreeing to be my fake boyfriend for this," she smiles, after a minute of silently dancing.

"You're welcome, even thought I don't have to be you fake boyfriend," he replies, causing her to look at him in confusion.

"What do you mean?" she asks, trying not to look weird

"I could be your real boyfriend," he continues, causing her mouth to slightly drop.

"Whit, I-

"I love you, Melea. Always have, always will. I understand if you only see me as a friend and I can live with that. I'm just tired of keeping this bottled inside. It's just with the way you look tonight and this song and being so close to you, I just couldn't keep it in any longer. I had to let you know how I really feel about you," he explains, everything coming out practically like word vomit.

"Whit, I love you too. Always have, always will. I just didn't think you ever felt the same. I'm sorry I'm such an idiot for not realizing your feelings for me," she replies, a smile on her lips.

"So what do you say, Melea (Y/L/N)? Will you do me the honor of being my real girlfriend?" he asks her.

"Yes, yes, a million times yes!" she squeals, before kissing him right in the middle of the dance floor with all her sister's friends and family nearby.

He kisses back right away, his hands tightening their grip on her waist. They kiss for a minute before the song ends and they rest their foreheads against each other, not breaking eye contact.

"I love you, Whit Merrifield," she smiles.

"And I love you more, Melea (Y/L/N)," he replies, before placing one final kiss on her forehead.

The two walk together with their fingers intertwined, back to their table. They spend the rest of the night happily in each other's arms, which is right where they belong

Sorry for the long wait, girl! It's been a busy week for me with my little sister being diagnosed with a severe ankle sprain after a trampoline fall on Monday. So, I've been playing nurse for her since she can't walk or do anything by herself. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this.
