One memory from the pest-ridden house that I don't think I'll ever forget is when I was practically harassed by a cockroach. It sounds horrendous right now, but it's a good laugh and you're going to need a good laugh before we get into the depressing topics.

My sister and I (yes, the one we literally just adopted, keep up) were wandering around the house, probably trying to sneak snacks into our room late at night. We were sneaking into the kitchen and right before we walked under the corridor, she stops. She doesn't say anything, just, stops. She covered her mouth and looked up at the ceiling, then slowly stepped away. Again, she isn't saying anything.

I'm looking at her completely clueless and asking her why she's backing away, but clearly I just stood there. Within a second, her eyes grew in size and her feel shuffled backwards even quicker than they were before. Her eyes made their way from the top of the wall over to me. At this point, I turned my head to see what she was looking at, which I should have done in the beginning so all of this could've been avoided.

Do you know what I saw? Can you guess what I saw? A roach, mid-air, with wings, a foot away from my face. I don't think you quite understand. A roach. With wings. Was flying towards me. When I say I was horrified, I mean I've never flailed my arms in front of my face so quickly in my entire life. I didn't even know that they could fly, or temporarily soar, whatever it's called, it's disturbing.

I took it upon myself to do some research, did you know that they hiss? Yeah. Roaches can hiss. If that doesn't make you see roaches as the devil's spawn, I don't know what will. If I ever hear one hiss, within that same minute, I would launch myself through a window and run to get help because snakes hiss. Those are deadly, whatever can hiss, in this brief conclusion, is deadly and ready to take my life. You can't change my mind, what's done is done.

That's one of the many memories that I have with her in that house. Throughout the years, she and I became very close in terms of going through a lot of similar situations, such as mental illness, family issues, self-harm, and sadly, molestation. We never really had many interests in common, but I guess that's why we grew so close. It's fun learning about things that you don't have any knowledge on, so she educated me on something's and I did the same for her.
