"I would never wed a man I couldn't beat in a fair fight."

I stood in front of the mirror mesmerized by the woman standing before me. She was a beautiful red headed girl with her hair done in a beautiful beach curls cascading down her back. Delicate white flower clips scattered throughout ending at the small of her back where her hair stopped. Her red hair contrasted greatly against the the simple white cupcake dress she stood in and her white sandals. A mix of boho and traditional. Elegance and grace clashing wonderfully with beauty and chaos. The best way to describe not only her look for the night but for the girl herself. I couldn't believe the girl standing in the mirror was real. I couldn't believe that girl was me.

"You look wonderful Asha." My aunt commented on behalf of my mother as she had tears streaming down her face and every word she spoke came out as a muffled sob. My dad stood at the door smiling, he too on the verge of tears. I had always been extremely close with my parents but especially my father. I was a daddy's girl 110% and now here he was; minutes away from giving his baby girl away to a man who was now supposed to take care of her. No matter how much my father liked Mitchell, to him, no man would ever be good enough for me. My grandmother, Anna, sat on a chair by the vanity watching bemused as my bridesmaids scuttled around touching up their hair and makeup before the bells rang and they had to go out there.

Another person I was extremely close to was my grandmother. She is very young considering her granddaughter is getting married. I guess that's just how all the women in my family are. Finding true love young. My grandmother was married at 16 to a man named Jackson and had her first child, my mother Alice, at 18. My mother was a little later than my grandmother, meeting my father, Tyler, their freshman year in college. She was studying journalism and he was studying to become a nuclear engineer. They were married at 19 and had me at 20.

Mitchell and I on the other hand have known each other our whole lives after he moved to New York from London when he was 6. I was 4 but he was always nice enough to play outside with me instead of excluding me like all the other kids. Growing up I was a tomboy which means he and I were inseparable. Always climbing trees together, playing baseball, and wrestling. That is how I found out when I was 7 that he and I would get married, according to my grandmother at least- even if I never believed her. She sat me down one rainy day, as tradition, we started reading.

"I wonder who I am going to marry when I grow up." I told her as she closed the book.

"Well, you'll marry Mitchell of course my sweet." She replied certainly. Tilting my head I giggled.

"How would you know Grandma?" I ask.

"I know the same way I knew that I was going to marry your grandfather Asha."

"And how did you know you were going to marry Grandpa." She laughed a little and looked at me.

"Because my sweet little Asha, I would never wed a man that I couldn't beat in a fair fight." Then I got up and went next door to get Mitchell and challenged him to a wrestle in the mud where I won- though I think he always let me win. I told him that day that he and I were going to get married because grandma said so. Him being the wee age of 9 found girls gross and I never thought I would ever see Mitchell that way we both agreed that that was never going to happen.

Mitchell and I started dating when I was 15 and he was 17. We dated for five years until one rainy day we were sitting inside reading and he brought that day up. Confused I told him I remembered it well and that is when he proposed.

The church bells rang snapping me out of whatever trance I had put myself into. I saw my mother help my grandmother up as they started to walk out of the dressing room. Quickly I walked over to her and pulled her aside.

"You were always right Grandma." I spoke softly and she beamed back at me.

"I'm glad I was my sweet." And with that she walked out with my mother and the wedding party got into places.
