It hurts drowning. The weight in your chest, the salt in your eyes, the unbearable pain surging through your body. You struggle for a time; anything to hold onto, anything to pull yourself up. Everyone struggles at first.
Your clothing soaked heavy, sticking to you, pulling you, making you sink further and further. The cold biting fiercely as the dark clings to you. It's claws around your throat, crushing your windpipe. You sit wishing for it to be over.
The pressure builds. You cry and scream into the murky colour that overtakes all. It builds until it's too much. The pressure builds. until you finally explode. "Let go" a metallic voice calls to you. Red escapes into the night. The blue water becomes stained. The night washes over you as warmth finally spreads through your body.
The darkness laughs as he comes to collect on the bet made before your time began. The sick and twisted games are finally over. As the last breath escapes you a sad song starts in the skies. Another soul fallen. Another soul lost.
