When Georgie's eyes opened, she was hit by a throbbing pain in the back of her eyes. She squeezed her eyes closed when she felt a wave of nausea run over her. She felt absolutely horrible.
"Hey, princess, you okay?" Georgie reached her hand over to where she heard Jake's voice.
Georgie felt the side of the bed she was laying on dip down on the side. Her hand was enveloped by the familiar touch of Jake's and her whole side was engulfed by warmth.
"She's going to be okay Jake. You look like she's on her deathbed," Matt said softly. A second later Georgie heard a sharp "Ow!" Come from Matt.
"Don't be an insensitive idiot!" Rose whisper-yelled at Matt.
"Sorry," Matt mumbled.
Georgie felt something warm and soft press against her temple. She felt her body relax and lean towards who she obviously knew as Jake. Georgie felt as he pulled her closer to him and kissed her forehead.
"Do you think she remembers anything that happened?" Matt asked.
"I don't know," Rose said and by the tone of her voice, Georgie could almost imagine her rolling her eyes at him.
Georgie didn't know what they meant at first, does she remember what? What happened?
But then, Georgie remembered. The two vampires. Matt having a knife held to his throat. A searing pain in her stomach. Then the blinding, white light. And darkness.
Georgie sat straight up in the bed and looked off to the side where Matt, Rose, and Jessica were standing with wide eyes.
Everyone clearly looked very worried but seemed fine. Besides the bandage on Matt's neck and the burn like bruises on his and Rose's wrists.
Jake sat up in the bed beside Georgie, looking at her with dark, worried eyes.
"Jeez Georgie, you scared me. Are you okay?" Jessica asked, walking closer to the bed.
"I - what happened to the vampires?" Georgie asked, clearing her voice.
"You do remember. Well they vanished or something," Matt said. "Like you blinded all of us with this white light and when it faded the vampires were gone."
"There was no trace of them at all. Not even their scent. The only thing left was the silver-infused ropes and dagger," Rose explained. "How did you do that, by the way? I thought you were just a human."
"I am. What else could I be?" Georgie asked, but a sudden thought occurred to her: What if she wasn't a human?
"A witch?" Matt suggested. "That sounds like I'm insulting you, I swear I'm not."
"How could she be a witch? She doesn't have those really unsettling light colored eyes that they all do. And do you not sense a human when you're around her?" Jake said as if that idea were totally absurd.
"How do you explain the light that clearly held a lot of power in it. The ground even began shaking as the light got brighter! And it was coming from Georgie. If that doesn't scream witch or sorceress, I don't know what does," Matt stated, thinking his idea wasn't as far-fetched as Jake thought it was.
"I don't know Matt, that's a little..." Jessica trailed off not looking very certain. "I've known Georgie pretty much my whole life, she never seemed anything other than a human."
"I'm just throwing out theories. I'm not saying I think she is something other than human, just that no human could ever pull off something that powerful," Matt said.
"I've heard that witches have a spell they can cast on themselves to make them appear human," Rose said after everyone had gone quiet. "I even read something where this couple was being hunted down and the wife who was a witch cast a spell on her child to make it seem like it was human."
