You might've thought this was the end, but it's not. After Peeta and Nova died, Katniss spend her days with Gale and his daughter, Galen. Her son, Tristan, grew older and by this time he was almost 13.
"Mom, can I go to Jackson's house?" He asked. I nodded my head, and he headed out the door. "Don't forget, I'll be at Gale's today!" I screamed out the door.
I looked around the house and thought of Peeta and Nova. I went upstairs to Nova's old room - Tristan's new room - and took a look around. I tear threatened to come out of my eye.
I walked into my room, and looked at the king sized bed. It's lonely at night. Damn the Capitol, he'd still be here if it wasn't for the damn Capitol.
I put on my shoes and walked over to Gale's house. I knocked at the door. Galen answered and gave me a half smile. "Gale's in there." Galen said, pointing to the living room. I walked in and saw Gale sitting in the chair with a newspaper in his hand. "Hey." I said. I sat down on the couch. "Hey." He said, not putting the newspaper down. I looked down the hallway at Galen. "Dad, I'm going to Dylan's." The sixteen - almost seventeen - year old said. Gale nodded his head, and she walked out to the car. I realized, that Dylan's brother is Jackson, and Tristan is over there right now.
"Gale," I started. He finally looked up for his newspaper. "Come sit here with me." He said, scooting over. I got up and sat down next to him. He lifted his arm up and wrapped it around my shoulder. He gave me comfort ever since Peeta and Nova died. I thought about if I liked Gale or not, but I would love to have someone to sleep in bed with. I don't know if he divorced his wife or what, but she's never here. NEVER.
I snuggled up closer to Gale. And I liked it. Spending time with Gale. I actually think it was more fun then spending time with Peeta.. No, what the hell are you thinking, you chose Peeta over Gale for a reason. But Peeta's gone now, Katniss. And it's your fault. I wanted to cry on Gale's shoulder right now, but I know he would ask what's wrong.
"Gale, what happened to Diane?" I suddenly cupped my mouth. Diane was his wife - or his ex- wife, i don't know. He looked at me, frozen. "She's gone...like Peeta." He said. Shit. She's dead. They aren't divorced. "When did this happen...?" I asked, nervously. "I don't really remember, but one day she was just gone...and I never heard from her again. I thought we had it good. Guess not." I didn't know how to end this awkward conversation, so I just kept quiet.
I stayed at Gale's until 9:00 - or until Tristan came home. I got home and sat down with Tristan. "Mom, you and Gale aren't going to get.. married," Tristan said. I froze. "I don't know.." I said. I started to go upstairs. "Mom, wait, look, if you are gonna marry him at least try to think of Peeta. How would he feel about you seeing another person just because he's dead? Get over yourself."
