Chapter 8
Ashton
‘Seriously, dude! You need to calm down,‘ Calum said, laughing as he watched me fidgeting.
‘We’ve been on this sodding plane forever!’ I complained, but that just seemed to make my three band mates laugh even harder.
‘I wonder what’s got your panties in a bunch,’ Luke said, turning back to his phone and plugging his headphones into his ears. I smacked him across the shoulder, but his attention remained firmly on the screen.
‘It couldn’t have something to do with a certain British brunette now, could it?’ Michael joined in, sticking his tongue out and dodging my hand as I leant forward to punch his shoulder as well, leaving his seat to head to the bathroom.
‘Ladies and gentleman, we are beginning our descent into London Heathrow momentarily. If you could…’ a soft female voice announced over the Tannoy and I let out a sigh of relief.
‘Finally,’ I muttered, and both Luke and Calum grinned knowingly at one another.
The fact was, Megan was the reason I was so restless. I couldn’t wait to see her again, even though it had only been a couple of weeks since we had been together. But every thought I had was of her. I couldn’t help it, I seriously had it bad. We had been speaking almost every day until about five days ago, when she had suddenly become really busy and had to keep cancelling our Skype dates. We had text, but it was almost as though she didn’t want to see me face to face.
I was determined to change that, or at least find out what was wrong.
Twenty minutes later the plane bumped down on British soil, and I had to contain my whoop of joy.
We were back.
I immediately pulled my phone out and saw that it had already changed to a British provider, so I opened up the conversation with Megan and sent her a quick text.
*HEY! JUST LANDED IN HEATHROW. YOU STILL COMING TO THE GIG TONIGHT? CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU XX*
I didn’t get a response until we had claimed our baggage and were heading out of the terminal, and even then I had to wait a little longer to read it because I was busy taking photographs with the fans who had somehow knew when we were arriving and had gathered to see us.
‘Ashton!’ one girl called my name, and I headed over to her, leaning down so our faces were close enough together for a photograph. I sent a smile her way after she had snapped the shot, preparing to leave, when something she said caught my attention.
‘Megan not here to greet you then?’
I turned round to face her, confused, and saw what could only be a knowing look being passed between the girl and her friend.
‘Sorry?’
‘Oh, I just asked about Megan. You and her are dating, right?’ the girl sounded innocent enough, but there was something in her eyes that I didn’t trust. It made me slightly nervous, and I started to head towards the car.
‘She’s a great girl. We’re good friends,’ I said over my shoulder. The girl’s smile dropped, and I went from nervous to scared. Since gaining fame by touring with the One Direction boys, we had also gained a lot of fans. Not all of them understood the concept of boundaries, and looking into this girl’s eyes, I knew I had just met one of them. But it wasn’t me I was scared for. She had asked about Megan.
She knew about Megan.
Somehow I was even more impatient for tonight’s gig.
