Chapter 5
Megan
I couldn’t believe he had turned up with some…some…skank! Barely a week after our date, however bad it had been. It was just in bad form.
And driving me wild in a way I really hadn’t expected. I didn’t think I would be this affected by seeing Ashton with another girl. I mean, it had been one date! It wasn’t like a relationship, or that it meant anything. Why was I finding it so unnerving?
She was so unlike me as well, all small and squeaky with long blonde hair I suspected wasn’t her own and a shed load of make-up. I didn’t think Ashton was shallow enough to go for girls like that.
Stop it! I scolded myself. I didn’t know the type of girl Ashton went for because I didn’t know him. He was just one guy who had taken me out and I was supposed to forget. I had sworn to myself that it was all about the band, I didn’t have time for boys and romance. I didn’t want that in my life, the distraction that could ruin us. I had worked too hard to get to where I was and I wasn’t about to let some guy ruin all that by getting in my head and confusing me.
‘Megan, are you alright?’ Audrey asked, looking concerned.
‘Yeah, I’m fine. Why?’
‘I just asked if you wanted anything to drink and you didn’t answer.’ Audrey twisted a red curl around her finger.
‘Oh, sorry. Yeah, I’ll have a coffee, thanks.’ I rubbed the spot on my arm where Ashton had grabbed me moments ago, the skin still tingling. That was some fairytale bullshit, all that romance and swooning moments, and I forced myself to forget about it. He was just some guy.
It didn’t mean anything.
Did it?
I refused to think about it anymore as the concert went on, avoiding the stage whilst 5 Seconds of Summer were performing and then steering clear of the dressing rooms when they came off. I didn’t want to run into Ashton, I was too afraid of what I might say to him if I did.
I needed time to clear my thoughts and get it back into the game.
‘I’m going to head home,’ I finally said. Audrey turned to me, her eyes wide.
‘Really? But Niall and the others haven’t finished yet,’ she argued, but I just shook my head.
‘I’m knackered, I’m just gonna go sleep.’ Audrey brushed her hand on my arm and nodded, understanding.
‘OK, sure. I’ll tell the guys you said goodbye. Go home and sleep.’ I spun round, waving over my shoulder, and nearly collided with Charlie, Louis’ girlfriend. She was really pretty, with metal grey eyes and light brown hair, pulled into a half up half down style.
‘Oh, hey Megan! How are you?’
‘Fine. How are you?’ I said quickly, not really wanting to stay around and chat.
‘I’m good, thanks. Glad to be back in England, it’s been nearly a month!’ she said, smiling. Charlie was Irish, and you could hear it clearly in her soft lilting voice. She was one of the nicest people I knew, and I was glad she and Louis had found each other, regardless of how messed up it had been.
‘Well, England’s glad to have you back. It was nice to see you,’ I said, giving her a hug.
‘Oh, are you off? Why don’t you stay, I’d love to catch up!’ I looked into Charlie’s expectant face and shook my head.
‘I would love to, but I’m literally about to crash. Give me a call, we will meet up sometime this week, OK?’ After we promised to grab a coffee together later in the week, I waved goodbye to her and Audrey before barrelling down the corridor, desperate to be free.
