Chapter 13

Megan

All around me the sounds of the airport buzzed, turning into white noise as I collapsed into one of the hard airport chairs and threw my bag to the ground exhausted.

I was going back home. This trip had been a complete and utter nightmare from start to finish, and I just wanted it to be over already. I hated myself for being weak, for letting Rosie talk me into coming, for going to that stupid gig…I was thinking up more and more reasons by the second as to why I hated every possible aspect about my life.

All I wanted was to go back to England, grab a bottle of wine and sit in my bed for at least twenty four hours completely alone with not even a thought to occupy my time. I just needed to get this ten hour flight out of the way, and then I would be free.

It would get easier with time. For both me and Ashton. He needed to forget about me, I had caused him nothing but torment and pain. People like me didn’t deserve a happy ending, at least not in the romantic way. It was too much to ask for that I get the dream career and the dream guy.

The dream guy. That’s exactly what Ashton had been. He had been the perfect guy for me, and I had thrown it all away. But I was too proud and too scared to answer his calls over the last couple of days, and he had finally stopped trying. I didn’t know what hurt more, that he wanted to speak to me or that he had given up.

Either way, it was done and I was finished.

Just then, my phone buzzed to let me know I had got a new e-mail. I swiped the screen to unlock it and clicked on the new e-mail, seeing it was from Rosie.

*Please watch this. From start to finish, I promise it will give you all the answers. Love you, and see you back in England, Ro-Ro xx *

Intrigued, I clicked on the video link she had sent me and waited for it to load. I had no idea what to expect, but I felt my breath hitch as Luke and Ashton appeared on the screen. I immediately knew what day this video was taken from, and sure enough a few moments later I appeared on the screen, tying my hair back up into a knot on top of my head from where Ashton had pulled it down from earlier that day.

I looked so happy. It was a shock to the system to see myself smiling so much, and I thought back to those nasty fans who had insulted me. Maybe they had been right. I wasn’t a very smiley person at all. But that had been all before I had had a reason to. Ashton had changed all that.

‘So here we are, fans. One of the biggest days in 5SOS history,’ Calum was saying behind the camera in a dramatic voice as he walked around, capturing me and the lads onscreen. I waved to it as it panned round before rolling my eyes and walking back over to Ashton. I swallowed loudly as I watched myself allow to be enveloped into his arm, nestled in like I belonged there. My hand casually brushed against his chest as he tried to explain the rules of the silly game we were about to play.

I wanted to turn it off. To stop watching, to forget I had seen it. But Rosie had asked me not to, and my morbid curiosity got the better of me. So I continued to let it play.

‘Here we have newcomer Megan Collins. How we feeling today Meg? Any pre-match nerves?’ Calum asked me onscreen. I watched as I shrugged nonchalantly.

‘Nah, I think we’ve got this in the bag. You’re looking at the dream team!’ I said with a laugh, high-fiving Ashton aggressively as he walked past, as the guys laughed.

‘We’ll see, we’ll see…’ Luke was saying, shaking his head.

The camera continued to follow after Ashton as he headed over to where we had chucked some water bottles. He sat down and took a few chugs before smiling at the camera, realising it was there.
