Chapter 7

Megan

I don’t know why I kissed Ashton in Covent Garden. I didn’t regret it, not for a second, but it was just so out of character for me that I was slightly shocked. But I definitely liked it, and wanted to do it again.

So I did. A few times actually.

‘Well, isn’t this sickeningly delightful?’ A voice said from the doorway into the living room. Ashton and I glanced up from the television, sitting curled up beside one another on the couch. It was a week later and we were hanging out at the house he and the rest of his band rented whilst they were here on tour. One of Ashton’s band mates with dark brown hair was staring back down at us, a grin on his face.

‘I didn’t realise you were coming back so soon,’ Ashton said, his arm still draped around me.

‘Sorry for intruding. You must be Megan,’ the guy said, stepping forward with a hand outstretched. ‘I’m Calum.’

‘Hi,’ I answered, grabbing his palm and shaking it. ‘It’s nice to meet you.’

‘And these dorks are Luke and Michael,’ Ashton said as way of introduction when two more ridiculously tall guys came stumbling into the room. The one with a lip ring and blonde hair waved whilst the other, his green hair standing a mile out, saluted me.

‘Glad to see everything worked out,’ Michael said, waggling his eyebrows. I frowned and looked towards Ashton, who was shaking his head.

‘I might have mentioned how badly our first date went,’ he said bashfully, making me groan in embarrassment.

‘Great, thanks for that.’ The four boys laughed, and I reluctantly joined in.

‘So what are we watching?’ Calum asked, plopping down onto the couch beside me and slinging his feet up onto the coffee table. My eyes flickered back to Anchorman 2 which was currently paused on the television. ’Ah, I love this one.’

Luke and Michael collapsed into armchairs and grabbed at the snacks Ashton had found for us, popcorn and crisps flying everywhere whilst the sound of cans full of fizzy drink being opened echoed round the room.

‘Oh, please, help yourself. It’s not like I bought them for me and Megan or anything,’ Ashton said sarcastically, but I smiled at him in a way that let him know I was OK with them crashing our date. I wanted to get to know his friends better, to find out more about him.

The movie ended a little while later and Michael turned to me during the credits, his green eyes locked onto mine.

‘So Megan. You planning on being faithful to our boy here when we go back home in a couple of days?’ he said seriously.

A heavy silence followed as I opened and closed my mouth a couple of times, unsure what to say. Ashton broke the tension by hitting Michael round the head with a cushion and making his band mates laugh loudly, whilst I continued to be distracted by the question. The truth was, Ashton and I hadn’t really talked about it. What we were, where we stood, or what we were going to do once he went back to Australia. Of course I wanted to carry on seeing him, I felt more comfortable with Ashton than I did with anyone else at the moment, but everyone knew long distance didn’t work.

I felt horribly conflicted.

‘Hey, guys, say cheese!’ I glanced over to where Luke was, half smiling automatically when I saw the phone pointed towards me, Ashton and Calum. Luke took the picture and spent a few moments engrossed in his phone, before all three of ours bleeped simultaneously.
