I fiddled with the gears in my pocket deep in thought. I was trying to figure a way to upgrade the Argo II. I only had today to work on it since the prophecy we heard today said that Olympus would disintegrate exactly one month from today. And, to add to all that stress we had to leave tonight at the latest. The stress was getting me nowhere because I just could not think. I decided to get some fresh air and take a break from all my thinking. I shook my head in annoyance.
'Leo Valdez, you've spent an hour trying to think up of ways to improve the ship and so far all you've come up with is a summonable taco bar. Dude, get your head out of the clouds and focus!' I told myself sternly. I knew there was only one person I could go to that could help me in a crisis like this. So, I made my way to their cabin and knocked on the door. The door opened and a boy looked out at me.
"Hey, Leo." the boy said.
"Hey, Malcolm is your sister here?" I asked
"Which one?" he joked. You see, Malcolm was a son of Athena making his sister the one and only Annabeth. I always went to Annabeth if I had problems with my engineering or thinking up of ideas to engineer.
"Which one do you think? Annabeth obviously," I said in my best exasperated high school girl voice.
"Oh, she's by the water with Mr. Jackson," he answered. I thanked him and bid him goodbye and left. When I got down to the water, I saw Annabeth and Percy sitting next to each other, Annabeth in Percy's arms as they gazed out at the horizon. I snorted to myself quietly. What sort of friend would I be if I didn't crash their adorable looking date?
I quietly snuck up in between them and said pretty loudly, "Hey guys, what's up?"
"Oh my gods! Leo! Oh, I am going to make you pay for this you little-"
"Ah uh uh! Watch your profanity Miss Chase!" I said in a sing song voice.
"Uh-oh, Leo better watch out! Annabeth is ready to murder you!" Percy smiled. He was right, Annabeth was already giving me the killer glare. I prayed to the gods that I would survive before we started the quest and ran as fast as my legs would take me. Unfortunately, it wasn't very fast considering I never tried in P.E. and when we did demigod training, I relied on my 'Hot Hands' as I liked to call them. So basically, Annabeth caught up to me and tackled me to the ground and started punching and kicking me while Mr. Aqua Man just stood there laughing.
"Annabeth," I said gasping for air as she had just punched my diaphragm, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to crash your date, I mean yes I did technically, but I was just looking for you so that you could help me with ideas!"
"Ideas for what?"
"The Argo II, obviously!"
"Oh, you want to upgrade it before we go on the quest right?"
"Yes, now can you please help me get up and let me catch my breath?"
"Awww is the wittle Leo McShizzle Bad Boy Supreme winded because mean old Annabeth punched him?" Percy asked in a mocking baby voice.
"Well, Aqua Man, I think you would know the answer to that question, because I think I distinctly remember the story of your first capture the flag game in which, if I remember correctly, you were punched by Annabeth and you fell to the ground and lost all you strength. So, you wanna play the weakness game?" That wiped the smirk right off of his face.
Later in the day, Annabeth and I worked on how to improve the Argo II. We ended up just tweaking a few things to make it run smoother, but I made sure to get my taco bar fixed in. I even had a vegetarian option for Pipes. We finished right in time for us to leave. The shadowhunters, who had gone back to their Institute for the night, came to Camp, before we all left. I noticed the animosity between Clary and Caly. I wasn't entirely sure why they weren't on friendly terms. Caly was usually happy and friendly with everyone and it seemed like Clary was the same way.
Unfortunately, Caly wouldn't be able to join us on the Quest, but we promised that we would Iris Message as much as possible. As we all got on the Argo II and said goodbye to everyone, I noticed Clary and Jace whispering to each other frantically. It seemed like something was wrong, but it wasn't my business so I just shrugged it off and got behind the steering post.
"All aboard Uncle Leo's fantastic creation, the Argo II! Come on, we have to leave soon!" I yelled.
"Come on Jace and Clary!" Cried Alec.
"Coming!" They both cried at the same time. I noticed that Clary's eyes were red and puffy and Jace's comforting arm around her shoulders. I made a gesture with my head, silently asking if everything was alright. Jace looked at me with a grim look and just nodded,
With that, we pushed off the dock and we were off! On our way to Athens, and our deaths.
