Chapter 17

i couldn't believe it.

zach's pov💍

i open my eyes slowly and i started tearing up immediately. i saw the all to familiar, old fashioned sign for scoops n' smiles.

scoops n' smiles.

the same rolled ice cream shop my dad used to take me to. the one that gave me my stupid nickname. i haven't been here since my dad got back from the hospital in fifth grade.

i wiped a tear from my eye as he opened the car door and smiled. "lead the way, skittles." and something odd happened. i didn't cringe or jump at the name. it actually made me feel all warm and good inside. i gave him a hug and he took my hand and walked me in. he ordered for the both of us.

two vanilla ice creams. with skittles instead of sprinkles.

he led me out to the back patio to eat it. we stood at the little balcony and looked into the night sky. even after we both finished, we stood there, hand in hand and watched. until he turned and looked at me. i pretended not to notice at first, but eventually i turned and looked at him, too. he was biting his lip and staring at mine. 

i smirked, knowingly. "whatcha thinking about?"

he smirked back, wrapping his arms around my waist. "how you deserve a real first kiss."

i blushed and looked at the ground. my heart raced as he put his hand under my chin and lifted my head up. he looked into my eyes and used his other hand to pull my neck closer to him.

he pulled me into a powerful kiss, even more magical than the first one. i responded immediately, closing my eyes and kissing back, my hands making their way around his neck. his lips were soft and warm, contrasting the brisk february whether.

he pulled away and rested his forehead on mine, his breath ghosting over my lips. i watched as he slowly opened his eyes and looked deep into mine. 

this night is perfect.

he is perfect.
