Chapter 10

zach was still sleeping when my mom and isla got home. i eventually fell asleep too, but only for about 30 minutes. i looked at the alarm clock. 10:05 pm.

i jump as a very sudden and loud boom fills my ears and a bright light flashes into my window. zach's eyes opened wide and he started shaking.

shit. he must be scared of storms. i was totally lost on what to do, so i just rubbed his back slowly and whispered in his ear that it will be alright. i didn't know if i was helping and was scared he'd have a full on panic attack.

i knew i had to act fast, so i did the first thing that came to my mind. text jonah. after a minute of him not answering, i realized he was probably sleeping, so i scrambled to do anything that could possibly calm him down.

my mind traveled to the night we kissed. the night i couldn't get put of my head. i leaned down towards his ear and softly sang the song we sang together that night. our song.

"darling i will be loving you til we're seventy

...

we found love right where we are."

when the song had ended he had stopped shaking but laid wide awake in my arms

we stayed like that all through the night. before i knew it, it was 6 am and there was a light glare showing through my window, zach and i cuddling with prominent purple bags under our eyes.

he turned around to face me, and i wrapped my arms loosely around his waist. he smiled at me in response. i looked into his beautiful brown eyes, and worked up the courage to ask him the question i've wanted to since the day i met him.
