Jade's P.O.V
Two weeks have passed and there hasn't been any word from Tobias. I'm starting to think that I won't have to go back to another one of those parties. "Jade!" I turned around to see Josh running down the hallway with Cody and Daniel walking at a normal pace behind him. He stopped in front of me and shived my phone into my hands. They had said they would give my number out to some people in hopes that Tobias would get it. Not wanting a lot of random people texting me, I let the boys hold on to it. And let me just say, that has been rough.
I stared down at the phone that was opened to a message from an unknown number.
You know I'm not really used to being rejected. I guess that's why I want to see you again. I'm throwing a party and I hope you'll be there. I'm sure you can figure out the date and address ;)- T"Tobias," I said aloud. The boys all nodded their heads with Josh nodding a little faster than the others. "How am I supposed to know when and where it is?" Cody smirked and answered,"Well sweetheart, that's why you have underground contacts." "The people we have you set up with will be texting you soon enough with information about the party. Remember, only sare the bare minimum when answering a text or don't answer at all," Daniel said sternly. I nodded my head and tried to hand the phone back to Josh but he pushed it away. "It's time you take it. Whenever they text just let us know." I sighed and put the phone in my back pocket.
The first five classes went by quickly and it turns out that Daniel and I actually have sixth period together. He usually sits silently and stares at the board without actually paying attention to anything the teacher is saying. I felt my phone vibrate and silently cursed myself for not putting it on silent. Daniel turned to me and gestured for me to check it. Mr. Matthews had his back facing us so I took that as my chance. It was a message from someone named Toby.
The party is tonight in his underground street-fighting rink in the town over.
I decided not to reply anything and handed the phone over to Daniel. His eyes got really big and I could see him gulp. "What is it?" "Do you still have that curfew?" He asked. "Yes." "Well, looks like you're gonna have to break it again." I wanted to scream no but something told me that getting this guy was important and that by missing this party I could jeopardize that. My step dad is supposed to be out for the next couple of days with his friend looking for a job and staying the night at his place but his plans could always change. I nodded my head and leaned back in my seat. What have I gotten myself into?
~~~~~~~
We were back at Josh's house where I was getting ready for the party tonight. The boys jad given me a tight red dress that stopped at mid thigh. It was hot but it was backless. I stared into the mirror at the ugly scares and bruises on my back. Tears welled in my eyes but I pushed them back. Jade, are you okay? You've been in there for a while," Daniel said knocking on the door. "Don't come in-" I was cut off by Daniel walking through the door."Jade what's taking- what are those?" He was looking at my back portrayed in the mirror with a look of anger and sadness. Fear settled in and my stomach felt like it was doing flips. "It's nothing," I said quickly. "Don't give me that bullshit! Who did that to you!" "Will you lower your voice," I said pleadingly. His face was contorted into one of anger but his eyes were screaming sadness. "Who did this to you?" He said softer. I cleared my throat uncomfortably knowing what my step dad would do if he found out that anyone knew. "I can't tell you," I whispered. A single tear escaped my eye and I hastily wiped it away. Why was I crying now? I'd always managed to keep my tears to myself before.
"Why not?" He asked. His voice was filled with anger, confusion, sadness. "Becasue he'll kill me!" I whisper screamed. The tears fell from my eyes and I couldn't stop them. I dropped to the ground. "Who, Jade?" He was kneeled in front of me with his hands on mine. I shook my head and he sighed, pulling me closer. I gripped his shirt and soaked it with tears I had tried so hard to keep in. He rubbed the upper part of my back in soothing circles. The tears dried up and Daniel grabbed me by my shoulders and gently pushed me back. "You may not want to tell me who did this to you but I will find out, and when I do, I'll kill him. The other dresses are in the closet. You can find one in there to change into." He stood up and helped me to my feet.
"Can we keep this between us?" He nodded and gave me a small smile but it felt forced before leaving the room to let me get dressed. I went to the mirror and grimaced when I saw that my eyeliner was streaked down my face. I fixed my make-up and went to the closet to find another dress to wear. After I was dressed in a plum dress that stopped mid thigh with thin straps I headed downstairs. Cody and Josh were waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs , probobly confused as to why I wasn't wearing the dress they had picked out. However, they didn't say anything about it. I was sure one of the boys had said something but all I could focus in was the thumps coming from the basement.
Daniel's P.O.V
I had agreed with Jade not to tell anyone about the marks on her back. It pained me to see her like that but I couldn't do anything about it if she didn't tell me who was hurting her. I was so angry about someone doing that to someone as beautiful as her so I headed down to the basement to work out my frustration.
I hit the punching bag again, and again, and again. I heard when the door clicked shut meaning they had left. I punched the bag even harder. Once I was out of energy I slumped against the wall and pulled my knees up. My knuckles were split open and bleeding. I wiped them across my jeans and stood from my place on the floor. I don't know why I care about this girl. We've only exchanged a few words but I already feel the need to protect her.
I can still remember the look on her face when we ran into her in the hall. She was a frightened girl who wanted nothing more than to blend into the crowd. And now when I think of her in the short dresses, tall heels, and make-up covering her face I think about how much I liked her without all of that. Her with the baggy hoodie trying to cover up her body, her hair pulled up in a messy ponytail, and only her natural beauty. Even in school I can see that she's became more confident.
She doesn't wear the hoodies anymore, she wears a little bit of make-up, and the boys even said she speaks up when in class. And as much as she seems like a girl that doesn't need protecting I know the truth. She may look like a pretty girl with attitude but in reality she's a girl with a hard life who is waiting for someone to save her from it, even if she doesn't know it.
I know, I know, I've been gone for a month and when I come back I give you this cringe worthy chapter. So, first of all, I have been going through some MAJOR writer's block and not really having any inspiration to write. So BAM, Daniel now knows Jade's secret. To those of you who may have guessed it, you were obviously correct. I really want to finish this story, not only for you guys but for myself. I'll try to get back in the habit but tbh I haven't even looked at this book in like, three weeks. I'm sorry for such random and late updates for those of you who actually enjoy this story. What d'ya say we make a deal? We get more than ten votes on this chapter and I'll update in less than a month. That shouldn't be too hard lol. Until then...
