A Dark Path - Damon Salvatore

The dark pathway you were walking on seemed to disappear at the end of the street.  You had always wondered what had been beyond the end of the familiar path. Will this be your moment to finally find out? Will you venture past the point where it seemed known to you? Will you take the chance?

You listen to your subconscious and keep walking past where the last piece of sidewalk pavement ends.  A bushy plant seems to stand in your way but you push past it revealing more plants but a small winding path.  You could turn back now but you keep going.  The farther down the path you get, the farther out of your comfort zone you seem to be in.

The birds seem to get quieter and finally you get to what is apparently your final destination.  A large mansion stands in front of you.  The driveway, a complete circle around, is inviting.  Why were you here? Why did your subconscious bring you here?

The sound of a crow makes you jump out of your skin.  The urge to find out who lives in the giant house overwhelms you and you decide to go for it.  What did you have to lose? Your family was already a joke, your grades in school were already a mess and you had all but one actual friend.

You needed a story.  Something to say at the door when a person opened it.

You decide on the typical, "will you sponsor me on a sponsored walk?" line.  You pull out a sheet of paper and a pen to make the line seem more believable.

Following the cobblestone driveway up to the big front door, you take a deep breath.  Why the hell were you so nervous? You just wanted to see who lived there.  That was all.  Wasn't it?

*Ring Ring* the doorbell made.

You hear nothing from inside the whole house.  Is no one home? Trying to peek through windows, the sudden sound of a squeaky door frightens you.  The big front door appears slightly open.  Being the nosey person you are, you push the door, revealing the inside of the house.

No one is at the door, so you step inside the mansion.  You had realized what a stupid idea this was, even before the door opened.  Stepping inside was just another mistake you had made today.  Coming here was one of the other ones.

Looking around you, you see history and you breath in the rich musty air of the big house.

"Hello." you hear a voice behind you, scaring the life out of you, you turn around to meet a man not that much older than you.  Only inches away from you, you can smell him.  The scent was overwhelming in an expensive cologne and a hint of metallic smell that left you concerned.

"Hello." you say back to him. "I am so sorry for barging in... the door was open and I just thought-"

"You just thought you'd come in and see if everything was okay." the man finishes your sentence.

"Exactly." you say hoping he believes you.

The tallish man had dark brown hair and bright blue, piercing eyes.

"Well, come on in." he says to you.

You follow him into a large living room space that is filled with old, expensive furniture.

"Please, sit down." he invites you.  "So, what is your name?"

"(Y/N)." you say to him.

"And why have you, (Y/N), come to visit me today? Your too beautiful to not have a reason." he says to you.  Almost creepy in the way that he says it should be a complete red flag but something about his cocky smile and the smooth sound of his voice draws you in.

"I wanted to see who lived here." you say quickly.  Completely abandoning the sponsorship story that you were sure was the cheesiest idea you had ever come up with.

"I see." he takes a quick pause. Suddenly he is beside you.  You blink fast to see if what you are seeing is a trick of your eyes.  But no.  The man is right beside you.  How did he do that?  "And now that you have seen who lives here, are you happy with your findings?"

"I guess so. So who are you?" you ask him, heart beating faster and faster.

"My name is Damon Salvatore and welcome to the old Salvatore Boarding House." he says.

Still breathing in the dusty air you decide that it is now time to leave.

"I think I should get going." you say to Damon, looking into his blue eyes.

"But you only just got here." Damon says, suddenly standing right in front of you.

"How did you do that?" you ask getting scared.

"You know, (Y/N), I'm so very glad you came to visit today." he says to you in almost a whisper.

You stand completely and utterly still.  Mostly in fear and mostly because you can't move a muscle anyway.  You are stuck. Feeling Damon's breath on your neck as he walks closer to you.

"Why's that?" you ask him, very still.

"Because I am so hungry." he says, revealing two fangs in his mouth. Veins rush from his eyes and they get unnaturally brighter.  What is he? What is he going to do to you?

He pulls himself into your neck and you feel pain rush through your body.  Your whole body goes numb and in a few seconds the pain is gone.  All that's left is the feeling of the blood in your entire body being drained.  The rushing feeling in your neck overwhelms you and Damon holds you up with his strong grip.

You feel yourself fall on the ground as you slip in and out of consciousness.  A wrist is brought to your mouth and you can taste the utter metallic taste of blood in between your teeth. You try to struggle out of the taste but the smooth life liquid slides down your throat like a shot of much needed alcohol. That's that last thing you remember in your human life.  The blood.

As soon as the thick substance slides down your throat enough, you feel hands on your head.  And then snap.  The consciousness is gone.  Transition is the next step.
