You take your regular seat at the Mystic Grill hoping to grab some salty french fries and a diet Coke. The atmostphere is chilled out compared to the grill on a Friday night, it's peaceful and you definitely appreciate it. You've had a busy week and all you've been craving is a giant glass of diet Coke - salty french fries included.
"Hey (Y/N)," Matt says walking over to your two person table. "What can I get for you?" he asks.
"Just some french fries and a diet Coke, please." you ask.
"Sounds good." he replies to you with that certain small smirk across his face.
You've known Matt since you were kids. You weren't ever extremely close or anything but you watched him grow up and the same for him. There's just something about knowing someone for that long. High school was done so you're adults now, well I guess our parents would disagree.
Matt has always appealed to you in the way personality goes - kind, always looking out for you, funny.. and looks.. well come on. You're not gonna lie to yourself and say he's not extremely good looking. But you don't think anything could ever happen between you too, especially right now.. he's too busy getting over his breakup with Caroline.
While you wait for your order, you decide to take a look around the restaurant instead of pulling out your cell phone as per usual, you've been trying to "unplug" lately but it's not going exactly as planned.
People around you talk and laugh, nothing seems out of the ordinary. A man with dark hair and a mysterious aura walks through the front doors and seats himself down at the bar. 'Whisky, please.' you hear him say to the bartender in what sounds like a British accent. Interesting to say the least.. what would he be doing in Mystic Falls of all places. But that's none of your business.
You can't help but stare at the man a bit longer. Something about his entire self intrigues you. Maybe he's a supernatural being like 99% of this town, sometimes it feels like you and Matt are the only humans left, and by your standards, that is completely fine with you. Still though, the whole supernatural witch, vampire and werewolf thing is just plain interesting to say the least.
"French fries and a diet Coke.." Matt says walking up to you and presenting you with delicious looking salty french fries and an ice cold diet Coke. There's something about the Coke that reminds you of a memory from the past so you love it. Way better than regular Coke in your opinion, although some people beg to differ.
Matt walks away slowly like he forgot something but then he stops in his tracks and makes his way back over to your table.
"(Y/N), do you think maybe you'd want to go out sometime..." he trails off. "I mean it wouldn't have to be like a date or anything if you didn't want, not that I want that or anything but I'm not saying that I don't want that-" he rambles on and on.
"Matt!" you say interupting his constant chatter. It makes you laugh. "Yes, I'd love to.. and if it is a date you are asking me on, then I would totally love that too.." you manage to say to him, more confidently than usual, but the long ramble from Matt you think boosted your confidence with that statement.
"Great! Um, how about Friday at seven? I'll pick you up." he says with a big smile.
"Tomorrow?" you ask to see if he's aware that Friday is in fact tomorrow.
"Oh shit, too soon? I knew I should've asked for next week.."
"No, no, Matt. Tomorrow is perfect." you reply with a soft smile on your face. You're genuinely excited for this date now. Never would you have thought that Matt would look at you that way.. but you're so happy it turned out like that.
