Chapter Four
Annabelle looked down at the wrinkled piece of paper for the fourth time that evening, letting her eyes run over the scrawling handwriting.
My Chemical Romance6-7PM
The Lazer Bar And Bistro
;)
She laughed at the little smiley face at the bottom, despite herself.
"So, when is it again?" Natalie called from the bathroom, where she was curling her eyelashes.
"6 to 7PM, and it's at the Lazer Bar And Bistro," Annabelle read aloud.
"Oh! I know where that is!" Natalie exclaimed, then let out a shriek as she dropped her eyelash curler in the sink.
"You okay in there?"
"Yep!"

The Lazer Bar And Bistro, was basically just like any other bar and bistro, except that there was neon EVERYWHERE.
It sort of hurt Annabelle's eyes.
She ordered a Coke, sitting down on one of the barstools, and keeping an eye on her drink (you could never be too sure), waited for the band to set up.
Gerard looked up from where he was holding the mic stand, and saw Annabelle. His face lit up, and he looked less scared. Smiling, he sent a small wave her way.
She returned the gesture with a small smile of her own.
And then the band started to play.
They did several covers, a few originals, but as it neared seven, Gerard spoke into the mic.
"This is another original song, and I would like to dedicate it to a good friend of mine - hope you don't mind that you were inspiration, Annabelle darling!"
She didn't mind at all.
"Yeah, so, Annabelle, this one's for you!"
And it was exceptional.
They had called it I'm Not Okay (IPromise), and it was perfect. *(A/N)

"So? Did we make it or break it?" Gerard asked as they walked. Natalie had left early, complaining of a sore stomach, so Gerard had offered to walk Annabelle back to her dorm. She had agreed - she didn't fancy walking the streets of New Jersey by herself, espicially at night. She didn't know karate, and didn't carry any conventional weapon that she could use to defend herself with.
"Definately made it," she replied, looking up at him and smiling. "You guys were amazing! My mind was blown," she made an explosion noise with her mouth, gesturing around her head. "Like that. Boom."
Gerard laughed, and suddenly clutched her hand in his, intwining their fingers. Butterflies erupted in her stomach as she looked down at their hands.
"Sorry - was it too forward, or -"
"No, no, it's okay," she reassured him, squeezing his fingers. He squeezed hers back. "It's nice."
He smiled at her, a beautiful smile that made her heart ache.
"You're amazing Annabelle," he told her, swinging their hands back and fourth.
"So are you," she replied, letting her arm relax as it swung.
He let out a bitter laugh.
"Sure."

She pressed the cool phone against her ear, hot tears pricking her eyes as the voice of a little boy chatted animatedly.
"I miss you so much Anna'!" he cried loudly, and in the commontion in the background, Annabelle fought back a sob.
"I miss you," she replied. "I miss you so much Max!"
"Mom says to get off now, but don't forget me! Have fun at camp! I love you!" He was terrified of abandonment.
"I love you too. I love you, so so so much."
The silence hurt her ear, and she dropped the hand that clutched the phone.
She sat there for a moment, until she finally let out a heartbroken sob, curling up on the cold bathroom floor, trembling and shaking with the weight of her silent tears.
For the voice was a recording, and her little brother was dead.
